SpinLaunch accelerates small satellites into Low Earth Orbit using a ground-based kinetic launch system. The payload is placed on a fast-moving track or carousel and released at the right moment so it enters the atmosphere with enough velocity to reach orbit, potentially with a small on-board upper stage. This approach aims to reduce costs and increase launch frequency compared to traditional chemical rockets. Compared to competitors, SpinLaunch focuses on economical, scalable launches with lower environmental impact by avoiding or reducing chemical propellants. The company’s goal is to provide cost-effective, sustainable, and repeatable access to space for satellite operators and space agencies, enabling frequent deployment of satellite constellations.

SpinLaunch has announced Meridian Defense, a Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation designed for secure government and defence communications. The system features integrated inter-satellite links and space-based routing, reducing reliance on ground infrastructure in contested environments. Built on SpinLaunch's core Meridian constellation technology, the system aims to provide governments with sovereign control over communications infrastructure whilst lowering costs and deployment timelines. The architecture enables end-to-end secure communications by routing data through space rather than ground relay points. Founded in 2014 and based in Long Beach, California, SpinLaunch is engaging with government stakeholders globally to define deployment models. The company says Meridian Defense addresses growing demand for operational agility and resilience in space-based communications.
SpinLaunch has appointed Walter Berger, former President and Co-CEO of Kymeta Corporation, to its advisory board. Berger brings over 40 years of experience in satellite communications, advanced networking and enterprise technology platforms. At Kymeta, Berger led the launch of the first commercially successful metamaterial flat-panel satellite antenna and established the company as a leading provider of electronically steered satellite communications solutions for the Department of Defense and commercial customers. He has also held senior roles at AppDynamics, SoftLayer and Leap Wireless. The appointment supports SpinLaunch's Meridian LEO constellation development. The company has completed critical antenna and payload testing and plans its First Customer Link launch aboard SpaceX Transporter-18 in October 2026. Berger joins recently appointed advisors including aerospace investor Dómhnal Slattery and defence veteran Peter Hadinger.
