Square Enix sets Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, yet makes the wait harder with stunning gameplay showcase.

Square Enix sets Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, yet makes the wait harder with stunning gameplay showcase. During Summer Game Fest, Square Enix finally provided the first look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the Remake trilogy, confirming its Spring 2027 release window. The second brief look at the game came during Gamescom Opening Night Live last week, which left many disappointed not only due to its length, but also due to the lack of confirmation of a precise release date. Thankfully, Wccf Tech Inc didn't have to wait much longer to learn when Wccf Tech Inc will finally be able to embark on Cloud's final journey, as today Square Enix confirmed with a new trailer shared during the PlayStation State of Play that the game will launch sooner than most expected, only a few days after the beginning of Spring. As opposed to the ONL trailer, which primarily focused on the Weapons, the powerful beings summoned by the Planet to defend it in time of crisis, the State of Play trailer focused on the main cast, providing a quick look at their combat abilities, and possibly at what seemed like a triple Synergy Ability between Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. However, the biggest news the trailer provided is the game's release date - April 8, 2027. Interestingly enough, this release date almost coincides with the day Cloud's journey began, as Final Fantasy VII Remake launched on PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020. Following the release date announcement trailer, Square Enix provided as promised an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation to close out this PlayStation State of Play presentation. Although in some ways similar to the open-world experience seen in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the third entry in the series seems to up the ante in every possible way, with the Highwind airship delivering a seamless world exploration, with the Chocobo Piko enhancing ground exploration with multiple abilities and a wealth of side activities that go beyond fighting enemies, including taking pictures of cute cats in Wutai. Quests have also been revamped, with players having the choice of which character takes the lead, delivering potentially very different experiences. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will also fully realize the combat system introduced in Remake and perfected in Rebirth. With the FITS system, players will be able to assign each character a different role between Warrior, Black Mage, Knight, and Summoner, unleash FITS-specific abilities, and further expand the wealth of combat options which was already vast in Rebirth. A really nice QOL addition that can be seen in the showcase is a notification when a Synergy Ability is available. As a long-time fan of the series and of Final Fantasy VII, the new showcase has only made me more excited for the game. As director Naoki Hamaguchi promised at the end of the showcase that there's still a lot to show, with more to come after release, with two DLC story expansions focused on Sephiroth and Vincent and the Turks, I cannot wait to see what else the team has come up with for a game that is set to become one of the best JRPGs of the generation.
