SubSea Craft makes multi-million-euro investment in UK battery specialist LORILLION, acquiring 40% stake. August 14, 2026 LORILLION, a Coventry-based engineering and R&D company specialising in bespoke electrification solutions and clean-energy technologies, has secured a multi-million-euro (multi-million-pound) investment from Portsmouth-based maritime technology company SubSea Craft. With this investment, SubSea Craft has acquired a 40% equity interest in LORILLION. This investment aims to strengthen the UK's sovereign capability to design, industrialise, and manufacture specialist battery systems for the defence, marine, and automotive sectors. Richie Frost, CEO of LORILLION, said, "Our strategic partnership with SubSea Craft will accelerate the development of key battery technologies and a dedicated battery-pack manufacturing capability, enabling a vital end-to-end sovereign capability in the UK. "This investment allows us to expand our engineering team, accelerate our proprietary technology and provide customers with a complete route from initial battery concept through design, development and testing, to certified production. It represents a major step forward for LORILLION and for the UK's ability to develop advanced battery systems for defence, marine and other demanding applications." Founded in 2023, LORILLION provides battery development services across the defence, marine, aerospace, and automotive sectors, specialising in the rapid development of bespoke battery systems for demanding, highly regulated applications. It also offers turnkey services spanning initial concept development, product design, validation, certification and production. With this fresh capital, LORILLION plans to expand its engineering team to over 70 people, accelerate the development of its proprietary battery-management technology, and support a new production facility in the Midlands, due to open next year Founded in 2014, SubSea Craft's (SSC's) mission is to provide maritime and amphibious forces with the operational advantage through the accelerated research, development and delivery of maritime technology. The company notes that it fuses continuous end-user engagement with rapid prototyping and open-architecture, software-centric design to deliver modular, adaptable and future-proofed platforms. It highlights that it is built to operate in contested and denied environments, and its solutions enable discreet manned and unmanned effects across subsurface, surface and air domains, enhancing maritime manoeuvre and resilience. All processes are conducted in-house, from concept exploration and solution engineering to testing, manufacturing and a comprehensive service-support wrap. This enables fast fielding and dependable through-life sustainment. SubSea Craft's advanced dual-domain maritime platform, VICTA, is capable of high-speed surface transit before rapidly transitioning to a wet, subsurface mode for covert delivery of operators and/or equipment. The VICTA Class craft is the first of a series of multi-domain platforms which can enable militaries to conduct a range of covert operations and deliver effects. With this investment, LORILLION is developing a bespoke pressure-tolerant battery system for VICTA vessel, designed to operate at depths exceeding 50 metres. Camilla Martin, Chief Executive Officer of SubSea Craft, said, "Modern defence capability is only as resilient as the industrial base behind it. Our investment in LORILLION is about more than securing batteries. It is about securing the engineering knowledge, manufacturing capability and freedom of action required to develop and sustain strategically important British technology." "For VICTA, the battery is not a commodity component. It is a mission-critical system. Having a UK design and manufacturing partner working directly alongside our engineering teams will allow us to accelerate development, maintain control of performance and strengthen the resilience of our supply chain."
