Susteon

Susteon

Licenses CCUS tech for industrial decarbonization

Overview

Susteon develops licensing-based decarbonization technology for heavy industry, focusing on CCUS, low-carbon hydrogen, and renewable natural gas to help cement, steel, and chemical sectors cut emissions. Its solutions include advanced solvents for post-combustion CO2 capture and methane pyrolysis that yields hydrogen and solid carbon. Instead of selling hardware, Susteon licenses patented tech and forms joint ventures to engineer, build, and operate decarbonization projects with industrial partners. Its goal is to scale CCUS and clean-fuel systems through partnerships and funding to lower carbon footprints in hard-to-decarbonize industries.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • 2026 site says DOE-backed DAC collaboration continues, keeping federal visibility high.
  • ECHO-SAF has $5.5 million and targets a 1-liter/day pilot unit.
  • A 2025 manufacturing partner scaled Sustenol production to 15,000 liters.

What critics are saying

  • Susteon still needs early-2026 flue-gas validation before commercial deployment.
  • Revenue depends on grants and partners, not recurring product sales.
  • Without DOE or ARPA-E renewals, Susteon becomes a stranded R&D lab.

What makes Susteon unique

  • Susteon combines carbon capture with conversion into fuels, not capture-only.
  • Sustenol hit 1,000 pilot hours, 94% capture, and 2.5 GJ/ton regeneration.
  • DOE, NETL, and ARPA-E back its dual-use decarbonization platform.
