Swapfiets

Bicycle subscription service with on-demand swaps

Overview

Swapfiets provides bicycle-as-a-service through fixed-monthly subscriptions, offering bikes with all maintenance and repairs included. If a bike cannot be repaired on the spot quickly, Swapfiets will swap it for a functioning one at no extra cost. Users manage their service via a mobile app that lets them schedule repairs, and the fleet includes standard city bikes and e-bikes, all identifiable by a blue front tire. The company targets urban commuters, students, and eco-conscious riders who prefer access over ownership, and emphasizes durability, repair, reuse, and recycling as part of its circular-economy approach. Compared with traditional bike rental or ownership models, Swapfiets differentiates itself by bundled maintenance, immediate replacement guarantees, and a subscription-based asset service designed to simplify urban mobility and extend bike lifecycles. Its goal is to provide hassle-free, sustainable urban transportation by making bike access seamless and long-lasting.

Soundcloud founder exits as Dance acquired by Swapfiets for $84,000 e-bike fleet

Dutch e-bike subscription company Swapfiets has acquired Dance, the Berlin-based firm co-founded by Soundcloud's Eric Quidenus-Wahlforss six years ago. The combined entity will operate a fleet of over 75,000 e-bikes and serve approximately 290,000 active customers across 45 European cities. Dance will continue as a separate brand, with CEO and co-founder Christian Springub remaining in his role. However, Quidenus-Wahlforss appears to be leaving the company. In a LinkedIn post, he thanked everyone who helped build Dance, calling it "one of the biggest journeys" of his life. Quidenus-Wahlforss, who moved from CEO to chairman about a year ago, did not disclose his stake size or future plans. Reports suggest he may be relocating to the US to launch an AI venture.
