Tanium provides endpoint security and IT systems management using the Tanium XEM platform. The platform gives real-time visibility and control over endpoints across an organization, allowing teams to see all devices, applications, and configurations and to take actions quickly. It works by deploying lightweight agents on endpoints that continuously collect data and respond to guided queries from a centralized console, enabling tasks like asset discovery, vulnerability assessment, patching, and remediation at scale. Compared to competitors, Tanium emphasizes real-time, large-scale visibility and control across heterogeneous environments, including government, financial, and retail sectors, with a single platform that integrates security and IT operations. The company's goal is to help organizations protect their critical assets and manage their IT environments with certainty and precision.

Tanium Black Hat 2026: autonomous security for AI threats. 2h ago · 0:00 listen · Source: AiThority Summary. Tanium is delivering new autonomous security capabilities at Black Hat USA 2026. These updates empower IT and security operators to manage AI-accelerated threats. The new features span agentic AI, exposure management, and security operations. They give operators the ability to detect, decide, and remediate at machine speed. Tanium's chief technology officer, Harman Kaur, highlights that ungoverned AI agents are an emerging attack surface. Tanium Atlas helps govern and manage these agents, ensuring actions are auditable and boundaries are enforced. The company is extending its Autonomous IT Platform to provide a complete view from external attack surface to endpoint. This allows operators to act autonomously and at scale. New capabilities within Tanium Atlas include Agentic Performance Analysis, which helps trace slow machines to their root cause. Background AI Agents continuously surface issues and execute alert-to-resolution workflows. The bottom line is these advancements aim to help security teams keep pace with the rapidly expanding threat landscape. This is an AI-generated audio summary. Tanium unveiled new autonomous security capabilities at Black Hat USA 2026 to help IT and security teams counter AI-accelerated threats. The updates span agentic AI, exposure management, and security operations. Central to the announcement is Tanium Atlas, an autonomous operating system that enables operators to move from question to resolution in one experience. New features include Agentic Performance Analysis for rapid root cause identification, and Background AI Agents that surface issues proactively and execute alert-to-resolution workflows within defined limits. Tanium also expanded Tanium Automate with endpoint-level sequence execution and generalised API capabilities for REST and GraphQL. The Tanium Atlas MCP Server now exposes approved Tanium data and actions to Claude, Microsoft Security Copilot, and other compatible AI clients through a governed Model Context Protocol server.
Inside Tanium: Celebrating women in engineering with patent holder and problem solver Julia Grunewald. Its Culture June 23, 2026 Every great innovation begins with someone willing to ask a better question. On International Women in Engineering Day, Tanium Inc. celebrate the women who look at a broken process and decide to build something new. At Tanium, Tanium Inc. has plenty of those women. This June 23, Tanium Inc. is proud to shine a spotlight on Julia Grunewald, a product leader who thought differently, changed how its customers understand risk, and earned two U.S. patents along the way. Before joining Tanium, Julia Grunewald spent more than seven years at BitSight, a cybersecurity ratings company, where she held roles across customer operations, product management, and cyber insurance solutions. She arrived at Tanium with a strong foundation in how organizations measure and communicate risk. Over the past five years, she has grown into her current role as VP of Product Management and Portfolio Lead for Exposure Management and made her mark on the cybersecurity industry along the way. Tanium Inc. had the pleasure of sitting down with Julia to hear her story. Tell Tanium Inc. about your patents in plain English. What problem do they solve, and why are they impactful? Julia Grunewald: Its two patents protect the Benchmark UI that displays risk scoring relative to other companies in the same industry. Where did the idea come from? Was there a specific moment or challenge that sparked it? Julia Grunewald: When Tanium Inc. first launched Benchmark, Tanium Inc. received customer feedback that objective risk scores weren't landing with their executive teams and boards. They weren't sure if a risk score of 340 was good or needed to be addressed. Tanium Inc. decided the best way to solve this was by comparison. If you have a risk score of 340, and that puts you in the top 20% of your industry, that's a much more valuable metric. No one else in the industry was visualizing risk scores as an industry percentile, so Tanium Inc. wanted to protect that. Tanium VP, Product Management and Portfolio Lead for Exposure Management Julia Grunewald at Converge 2025 What does it mean to you personally to be a patent holder? Julia Grunewald: My favorite part of being part of the Tanium product team is being able to use its technology to help its customers with difficult problems, especially when Tanium Inc. can make very technical security information accessible to broader audiences. The Benchmark UI does exactly that, and being awarded these patents recognizes its novel solution to a customer problem. What advice would you give to a woman just starting out in engineering or tech? Julia Grunewald: Don't be afraid to ask questions! Tanium Inc. has a great team here at Tanium with a wealth of knowledge about its products, the industries Tanium Inc. support, and just about anything else you would want to know. It might feel intimidating at first to ask someone more senior for help, but you'll learn faster and build valuable connections with the rest of the team. Julia's work is a reminder that some of the most impactful ideas start simply. In her case, listening to the customer was the foundation for innovation. She saw room for growth, built something the industry had never seen, and helped Tanium secure a unique asset that no competitor had protected. Julia is one of many incredible women at Tanium whose talent, curiosity, and drive have helped shape this company. To every woman on its team who shows up, builds, and pushes the boundaries of what's possible - thank you. Happy International Women in Engineering Day. Tanium is a leader! 2026 Gartner(R) Magic Quadrant(TM) for Endpoint Management Tools
Tanium, a cybersecurity startup valued at $9 billion, has undergone a leadership reshuffle after losing five top executives. Chief legal officer Brady Mickelsen, chief people officer Tobias Julén, chief information security officer Chris Hallenbeck, and chief marketing officer Tara Ryan all departed in May. The Seattle-area company, founded in 2007, has raised nearly $1 billion from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, TPG, and Salesforce Ventures. Tanium hired its CFO in 2021 to conduct an IPO readiness assessment, though several employees had previously left over uncertainty about going public. The company has since promoted Russ Evans to chief legal officer and appointed Shannon Rosales Mirani as interim chief people officer. Ben Stein was elevated to chief strategy officer.
Tanium has unveiled AI-driven product innovations at the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, aimed at enhancing threat hunting, anomaly detection and policy enforcement. The updates span security operations and endpoint management across its Autonomous IT Platform. Key launches include Tanium Threat Navigator for automated threat hunting, Tanium Connector for Microsoft Edge for Business integrating browser telemetry, and Tanium Anomaly Detection for Enterprise Software. Tanium Enforce streamlines policy enforcement by importing CIS Build Kits as enforceable policies with automated remediation. The company has also expanded its FedRAMP authorised services, adding Tanium Ask, Microsoft Intune Connector and mobile endpoint management to its US Government cloud boundary. Tanium is recognised as a Leader in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Management Tools.
