The stateline destination will reopen under the new ownership on Wednesday, July 22 at 12 p.m. The doors will open to the public after brief announcements from Terrible's leadership as well as Cory Clemetson, grandson of Primm founder, Ernie Primm, and president of the Primm South Real Estate Company. This reopening comes after the previous operating company announced back in May it would close operations at multiple properties in Primm. The original closure date was set for July 4, 2026. (KSNV) LAS VEGAS (KSNV) - Primm, a small oasis community on the California state line, is no longer facing the prospect of becoming a modern-day ghost town after a deal was finalized to shift several local properties to Terrible's. Affinity Gaming announced plans in May to close its Primm operations, raising concerns about what would happen to the community and the people who work and live there. The finalized deal means several properties in Primm, including the Primm Valley Resort and Casino, was transitioned to Terrible's, easing uncertainty for about 300 employees. Dominic Jenkins, who works at what was the Primm Center and now works for Terrible's, said the transition moved quickly once the deal was finalized. "I feel great! We don't have to scramble around and find housing or another job, so... it's a good feeling," Jenkins said. He described how fast changes were made at the store. "We had to wrecking ball this place. We took the aisles down. We ordered stuff. It all came in one day. We did everything in one day," Jenkins said. Deal finalized to sell key Primm properties to Terrible's, easing closure fears The transition was still underway this afternoon at the market that serves the Desert Oasis Apartments, where Jenkins and hundreds of other Primm employees live. Retail manager Robert Guillen said the focus has been on bringing operations in line with Terrible's expectations. "Really, just training our staff, getting our store up to standards," Guillen said. Guillen said the changeover involved multiple departments and systems, including replacing the computers behind the counter. "We had all of our stakeholders - all hands on deck from marketing, I-T, our operations folks such as myself, h.r. to transition all of the team members," he said. UNLV gaming historian David Schwartz said Primm's decline began with the expansion of tribal gaming in California, but he believes Terrible's is positioned to reinvent the area, including reopening the casino at Primm Valley Resort and Casino and determining what to do with other acquisitions such as Buffalo Bill's, home to the "Desperado" rollercoaster, as well as the truck stop and Whiskey Pete's across the freeway. "I think a lot of it's looking beyond what's happened in the past," Schwartz said. Schwartz said the outcome will depend on how Terrible's markets the destination and what it offers visitors. "I think a lot of it does depend on how they market it and what attractions they have there; people will travel to go to things," he said. He added, "If it's just, well, here's the same slot machines you can play an hour closer to home, maybe not, but if it's, well, here's something different, maybe." Terrible's also now owns the lotto store in Primm, a point local radio host Ryan Hunter of the "Road Show" on Coyote Country FM called important for the community's future. "I think it's awesome they saved it. But here's what I want Vegas to know. We have to come here and support it now," Hunter said. "If Terrible's is going to save it and the jobs, we have to do our part," he said. Primm family partners with Terrible's to operate properties in Primm on California Nevada border. Tuesday, June 9, 2026 3:14 PM Email, LinkedIn, and more The Primm family announced Tuesday that they have signed an agreement with Las Vegas-based Terrible's to operate its hotel-casinos and related properties in Primm on the Nevada and California border. The remaining operations were scheduled to close July 4. Cory Clemetson, the grandson of Primm founder Ernie Primm and president of the Primm South Real Estate Company, said the Primm family, which has owned hundreds of acres of land and businesses at the town since the 1950s, said in a statement that they are "delighted to partner with Terrible's and the Herbst family to help our family manage and operate these properties that are so important to Southern Nevada, our economy, and the people who live, work, and play at Primm." The July 4 closing date was issued by previous operator Affinity Gaming and Z Capital when they notified Primm employees, residents, and state gaming regulators on May 5 that they intended to close the properties they've been operating at Primm for nearly 15 years. Clemetson said the Primm and Herbst families will be "doing everything possible" to prevent the currently operating Primm Valley Casino Resort, Oasis Apartments, and gas stations to close. "We're pleased that we were able to secure such a qualified and like-minded partner for our properties at Primm in just over a month after that unfortunate and poorly timed announcement," Clemetson said. Future plans may include property renovations, upgraded traveler amenities, enhanced food and beverage offerings, infrastructure improvements, and other investments. As plans move forward, additional details regarding future developments and investments will be announced. Clemetson said the Herbst family, known throughout the state for its entrepreneurial leadership and commitment to Nevada communities, has built a legacy of innovation in gaming, convenience retail, fuel, hospitality, and travel services. Together, he said the partners are embarking on an effort to restore, enhance, and reimagine Primm as a destination for travelers, truck drivers, and southern Nevada residents.
