Chemix.ai uses artificial intelligence to transform EV battery design by offering an AI-powered platform as a service to battery manufacturers. The platform is trained on a large dataset to predict how design changes affect performance, and it automates the battery development process. It evaluates metrics such as cycle life, heat generation, rate capability, and safety across diverse use cases, streamlining design and testing to create higher-performing, more sustainable batteries. Its approach differentiates it from competitors by delivering data-driven, end-to-end design automation tailored specifically to the battery industry, backed by expert leadership and industry advisors. The company’s goal is to speed up and improve the design process to produce safer, longer-lasting, and more efficient EV batteries.

Chemix, an AI-powered EV battery developer, has completed a $20 million Series A funding round, led by Ibex Investors.
Chemix, a company specializing in next-generation EV batteries, has successfully raised $20 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Ibex Investors and saw participation from Mayfield Fund, Berkeley SkyDeck, Urban Innovation Fund, BNP Paribas SIVF, Global Brain's KDDI CVC, and Porsche Ventures.
The battery industry is on the cusp of a radical change, and a $10M seed round raised by Chemix shows why.
“Batteries are hard,” an expert once said.He wasn’t kidding. Designing and manufacturing pouches, slabs or cylinders filled with volatile chemicals that are capable of recharging ever more quickly is far from easy. Just ask LG, which had to pay GM nearly $2 billion for a costly manufacturing defect that saw every Chevy Bolt recalled. It gets even harder when you consider the realm of possibilities. There’s a range of materials that can store electrons and tweaking their amounts only expands the number of combinations.“Whenever you have a new battery that needs to be designed, there’s a huge design space, almost limitless design space,” Kaixiang Lin, co-founder and CEO of Chemix, told TechCrunch+.Years ago, new battery types were discovered by chemists laboring away at benches, testing different combinations. They were guided by an in-depth understanding of electrochemistry, decades of previous research and a hefty amount of intuition. They made great strides relying on that combination
Chemix has developed MIX™, a battery-specific AI-powered design platform, to accelerate its electric vehicle (EV) battery development process by 10x over conventional approaches.Trained on Chemix's proprietary high-quality and high-diversity datasets, MIX leverages the world's most advanced AI algorithms, demonstrating record model performance metrics. With MIX, Chemix has developed a wide variety of high-performance EV battery chemistries, significantly reducing reliance on cobalt and nickel.Founded by advanced battery development and AI/ML experts from Harvard, Stanford, and UC Berkeley, the company has raised $10M+ in early-stage funding led by Mayfield Fund, Radical Ventures, and Ibex Investors to scale operations.Sunnyvale, CA — (May 2, 2023 ) — Chemix, the startup leveraging AI to rapidly build high-performance and environmentally sustainable EV batteries, today unveiled MIX™, its AI-powered design platform specifically developed to accelerate the commercialization of next-generation EV batteries. By leveraging MIX, Chemix is poised to revolutionize the decades-old EV battery industry, similar to how AI has transformed drug discovery by accelerating pharmaceutical research and development. This will enable the pace of battery innovation to finally catch up with the ever-growing demand for better-performing, safer, and more sustainable EV batteries.A battery is to an electric vehicle what a processor is to a computer – a critical technical component determining the entire system's performance. Despite this central importance, the approach researchers have used to develop new battery materials and systems has remained largely unchanged for decades – until now. As opposed to the conventional method that relies on time- and labor-intensive processes for battery development and testing, Chemix adopts a revolutionary AI-based approach. This accelerates the discovery of the best battery materials, formulations, and recipes by leveraging large proprietary experimental datasets and cutting-edge proprietary algorithms
