The Lumber Manufactory

The Lumber Manufactory

Timberland marketplace and modular sawmill technology

Overview

The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) builds and operates a platform that connects timberland owners with opportunities to sell or harvest timber while developing modular, flexible sawmilling technology to enable sustainable, faster production of dimensional wood. Its core product is a modular sawmill system designed to reduce waste and shorten manufacturing time, paired with a nationwide network that links landowners to industry professionals to facilitate timber transactions and obtain favorable pricing for timber rights. The company differentiates itself by combining processing technology with a marketplace-like platform that empowers private landowners and democratizes access to wood processing across the United States, rather than relying on traditional, localized sawmills. The goal is to increase forest productivity, promote sustainable forestry, and expand economic opportunities for landowners by making timber harvesting and processing more efficient and accessible.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • On August 12, 2026, TLM opened operations and added more than 50 jobs.
  • Mississippi incentives and Union County support lower startup costs and community friction.
  • Existing timber surplus and lumber deficit support immediate demand for Southern pine output.

What critics are saying

  • One Mississippi mill concentrates execution risk; a single outage can stall credibility.
  • TLM lacks disclosed post-2024 funding; capital intensity threatens nationwide expansion before 2027.
  • Regional lumber incumbents can undercut pricing, compressing margins and trapping TLM in one market.

What makes The Lumber Manufactory unique

  • TLM combines sawmill software with a 45 MMBF Mississippi mill and R&D hub.
  • The New Albany facility targets Southern Yellow Pine, SPIB certification, and local timberland owners.
  • Founders bring Blue Origin, Anduril, Nvidia, and Georgetown credibility into heavy industry.

The Lumber Manufactory opens $15M sawmill in Mississippi, creating 50+ jobs

The Lumber Manufactory has opened a sawmill in New Albany, Mississippi, representing an investment of more than $15 million and creating over 50 jobs. The facility will process Mississippi's abundant pine sawtimber and provide new opportunities for private landowners to sell their timber. The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive programme, alongside AccelerateMS and Union County. The sawmill is now operational. TLM was founded in 2023 by executives who previously worked at Anduril, Blue Origin and Nvidia. Co-founder and CEO Michael Grasso said America has a timber surplus and lumber manufacturing deficit, calling the new state-of-the-art mill a "tremendous opportunity to build more sawn wood products at home".
