The Path, an AI therapy app co-founded by Tony Robbins and Calm alums Anson Whitmer and Tyler Sheaffer, has raised $14.3 million in seed funding led by Prime Movers Lab. Participants include Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, boxer Deontay Wilder and Designer Fund. The startup emerged from Mental, a men's mental health app where AI interactive audio proved particularly popular. Robbins, initially an adviser, became so involved he joined as co-founder, helping shape the app around his self-improvement methods. The Path uses specially trained AI models to provide personalised therapy and coaching, scoring 95 on the Vera-MH mental health safety benchmark compared to 65 for consumer chatbots. The app offers 11 virtual therapists with customisable preferences and is currently free, with plans to charge $40 monthly.
Tony Robbins AI mental health startup The Path raises $14.3M. The Path was co-founded by Anson Whitmer, a founding member of the Calm app, and Tyler Sheaffer, founding engineer and former VP of engineering at Calm. Tony Robbins The Path, an AI therapy platform focused on mental wellness, has raised $14.3 million in seed funding. Prime Movers Lab led the round, with participation from Apolo Anton Ohno, Deontay Wilder, Designer Fund and others. The company was cofounded by Tony Robbins; Anson Whitmer, a founding member of the Calm app and former leader of its data science and AI team; and Tyler Sheaffer, founder of Calm's engineering team. WHAT IT DOES The Path, formerly Mental, offers a subscription-based AI mental health app with an anti-validation architecture, the company says. It is "built to challenge you, not agree with you" and utilizes clinical frameworks and practices, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and solution-focused brief therapy. "I've spent decades studying human potential, and here's what I know: the gap between hitting rock bottom and getting real help is where too many people disappear. That gap is a crisis," Robbins said in a statement. "Mental health support has lagged behind human need for far too long. The Path is delivering what the industry has failed to: personalized, accessible support for anyone who needs it, anytime they need it. Anson and the team are building something that has the potential to save lives and help millions of people." MARKET SNAPSHOT A March KFF tracking poll found that around one-third (32%) of U.S. adults have used AI chatbots for health information in the past year. Around three in 10 (29%) adults polled sought information about their physical health, while one in six (16%) sought information about their mental health. The poll found that younger adults are more likely to seek information about their health than older adults, particularly when it comes to mental health.
