OpenAI buys UK consultancy Tomoro to launch $4B AI deployment venture

OpenAI has agreed to acquire UK-based AI consulting firm Tomoro to form the OpenAI Deployment Company, a standalone consultancy designed to help enterprises extract value from its AI models. The acquisition brings approximately 150 forward deployed engineers and deployment specialists into the new unit. The consultancy has launched with over $4 billion in investments from venture capitalists, private equity firms and major consultancies including Capgemini, Bain and McKinsey. OpenAI's engineers will conduct diagnostics, run proof-of-concepts and build production systems integrated with enterprise data and tools. The move comes as OpenAI faces mounting infrastructure costs. The company recently doubled API pricing for its GPT-5.5 model to $5 per million input tokens and $30 for output tokens. The acquisition is expected to close pending regulatory approval.
