Town & Country Markets strengthens board, Family Council. Share via: Town & Country Markets, a family-owned grocer with six stores across Washington's Puget Sound region, has appointed Jennifer Daquiz Hare, Leslie Rice and Ed Nakata to its board of directors. Nakata, son of Ron Nakata and a grandson of co-founder Mo Nakata, also serves as president of the company's Family Council, supporting the preservation of family values and preparation for future generations of ownership. The new board members bring expertise spanning corporate finance, business strategy and business growth in the banking and investments, insurance and technology sectors. "We're intentional about building a board that reflects the expertise and values needed to guide our future and align with the evolving needs of our guests," said Ryan Ritter, CEO of Town & Country Markets. "Our board of directors plays a critical role in shaping long-term strategy, stewarding resources and family values and ensuring the organization thrives in our dynamic retail landscape. We're thrilled to welcome these new leaders to our team. Each brings unique experience and perspective, and a shared commitment to our mission." Daquiz Hare joins with more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in corporate finance, strategy and growth. Named one of the Puget Sound Business Journal's 2026 Directors of the Year, she led PNC Bank's corporate and institutional banking expansion across the Pacific Northwest, building the region's first office into a $2 billion business while advising companies on complex financing and long-term growth strategies. She also serves as board chair at Washington STEM and as a board advisor to the dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington. Rice is a financial executive with more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning finance, operations and strategic growth. Her executive career includes senior leadership roles at Wells Fargo, Safeco, DaVita and PEMCO, bringing expertise in financial oversight, governance and organizational strategy. She has served on numerous nonprofit and corporate boards, providing guidance and financial oversight to organizations across the Pacific Northwest. Nakata brings more than 20 years of experience leading technology strategy, enterprise platforms and digital transformation for organizations including Microsoft, JPMorgan Chase and McKinstry. His only prior work for the company was a stint as a courtesy clerk in high school. As president of the Family Council, Nakata plays a role in fostering family engagement, governance and long-term stewardship, while helping to bridge the perspectives of family shareholders and company leadership. The council took shape after family members gathered in 2023, as a CEO retirement approached and senior members of the family stepped back from daily operations. Fifteen Nakatas, including spouses, committed to the council, and 20 family members are part of a broader family assembly. Nakata helped put the family's core values into writing. "I'm honored to join the board at a time when the company continues to deepen its commitment to its mission and the communities it serves," Nakata said. "Since its founding, Town & Country Markets has been guided by the principles of care, integrity and respect. I look forward to listening, building relationships and helping create more opportunities for our guests to shape the future of the company." Town & Country Markets was founded in 1957 by brothers John and Mo Nakata and their friend Ed Loverich. Grocery store transformation blends shopping and hospitality. June 15, 2026 By The Construction Specifier A grocery store renovation is expanding the store's appeal by positioning it as a community hub. Town & Country Markets in Poulsbo, Wash., teamed up with design partner Cushing Terrell to prioritize meal planning, convenience, and a new on-site restaurant. Design updates for the 7,529 m[2] (81,043 sf) location include a classroom, test kitchen, and outdoor patio. The store's beauty and housewares sections received updated fixtures and lighting. The deli and cheese areas were renovated, while the produce and floral departments gained new signage, valances, and casing. The Field House restaurant is integrated into the market through a partnership with chef Ethan Stowell. The design team created a clear visual separation between the restaurant and the market. The team transformed the existing upper-level mezzanine and patio into an indoor-outdoor experience. They replaced concrete walls with floor-to-ceiling glazing across both levels. A bright, transparent dining space now occupies the former deli and back-of-house kitchen. The project team at Cushing Terrell was led by principal-in-charge Kara Eberle-Lott and project manager Sivani Krishna. Design leadership was provided by Alice Wang, with architectural support from Blake Cronin and KuoChao Tseng.
Town & Country Market debuts a limited edition Pride tote bag. Friday, june 5, 2026. Town & Country (T&C) Markets debuted a limited-edition Pride tote bag designed by Seattle artist Esmeralda Vasquez, marking the first artist tote bag release with future totes coming this summer to continue celebrating community, creativity, and the neighborhoods surrounding its markets across the Puget Sound. Available for a limited time only, the "Love for All" tote bag features a pair of heart-winged lovebirds carrying lavender in their beaks. The artwork draws from lavender's association with love and devotion, the abundance of lavender throughout the Pacific Northwest, and the flower's historical ties to queer empowerment and identity. The artist, Esmeralda Vasquez, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, muralist, and illustrator based in Seattle. Her work is shaped by her experience as a Queer/Latinx artist from Washington's Yakima Valley and often explores symbolism, color theory, identity, and intentional storytelling. "We're excited to launch this new artist tote collection with a design that celebrates inclusion, creativity, and community," said Ryan Ritter, CEO of Town & Country Markets. "Partnering with local artists allows us to continue to create meaningful pieces that reflect the people and neighborhoods connected to our markets while supporting organizations doing important work locally." The new Pride Tote will support Lambert House, the Capitol Hill-based nonprofit and community center supporting LGBTQ+ youth, by donating $1 for every tote produced. The launch showcases the company's ongoing dedication to collaborating with local artists following its in-store murals and recently launched mugs. It also offers a first look at Town & Country Markets' broader artist tote collection arriving this July. The upcoming July limited-edition tote bag release will feature the same market-specific designs showcased on its popular MiiR mug artist collection, inspired by each market location - Bainbridge, Ballard, Lakemont, Mill Creek, Poulsbo, and Shoreline. Together, the tote collection celebrates people, and the distinct character, landmarks, history, and natural beauty of the communities surrounding each Town & Country Market location. The Pride tote is available now in all Town & Country Market stores while supplies last, priced at $9.99. Images can be found HERE.
