TrialKit

TrialKit

AI-powered discovery platform for criminal defense

Overview

TrialKit provides AI-powered discovery software for criminal defense to manage and analyze large amounts of digital evidence. It automatically converts files to searchable text, uses AI to extract entities and times, and applies facial recognition to catalog faces in video, all within an interactive, secure workstation for notes, fact mapping, and witness prep. The platform is tailored to criminal defense and public defenders, offering defense-focused workflows rather than generic e-discovery tools. Its goal is to broaden access to advanced discovery capabilities for U.S. criminal defense firms and public defender offices, reducing data review workload and speeding up case preparation.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • TrialKit reported over 20 defense-firm and public-defense users by April 2025.
  • The April 2025 UpWest-led seed round validated demand and funded product expansion.
  • 2026 podcast appearances and a live press kit show active founder-driven market momentum.

What critics are saying

  • 2025 seed capital only totals $4.25 million, limiting runway against better-funded legal AI rivals.
  • Criminal-defense adoption depends on courts, public defenders, and budgets that change slowly.
  • Facial recognition in evidence review invites accuracy, bias, and admissibility challenges in 2026.

What makes TrialKit unique

  • TrialKit targets criminal defense discovery, a niche ignored by generic legal AI tools.
  • Ariel Deshe built it from public-defender experience with overloaded digital evidence.
  • Its AI-native workflow unifies review, fact mapping, and witness prep in one system.
