Unipal

Digital student IDs with discount partnerships

Overview

Unipal provides digital student IDs through a mobile app, giving university and college students access to exclusive discounts and benefits. The platform operates by partnering with local and regional brands that pay to be featured and reach a targeted student audience, generating revenue from these brand partnerships. In addition to the discounts, the app includes features like a savings tracker to help students monitor their savings and offers premium support for enhanced service. Unipal differentiates itself by focusing specifically on the Gen Z student market and building long-term brand loyalty with students through tailored, location-based deals, rather than relying on a traditional physical student card. The overall goal is to help brands engage with students and cultivate ongoing loyalty while providing students with easy access to savings and exclusive offers.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Unipal raised a Pre-Series A in February 2025, funding Saudi expansion into Jeddah and Dammam.
  • The March 2026 app launch promises 200 local discounts and 150,000 global discounts.
  • Its Bahrain base still shows over 200 merchants and more than 10,000 student users.

What critics are saying

  • Discount platforms face low switching costs; IMTIAZ and Haiba can compress Unipal's merchant pricing.
  • Unipal's university whitelist excludes most students, limiting expansion beyond Bahrain and Saudi campuses.
  • If merchant acquisition stalls after Saudi launches, Unipal becomes a coupon layer with weak defensibility.

What makes Unipal unique

  • Unipal pairs digital student IDs with discounts, savings tracking, and premium support.
  • Its new IMTIAZ youth card links Unipal perks to Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company.
  • It targets Bahrain and Riyadh students with verified university eligibility and local merchant access.
