United Community has appointed Tom Speir as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective 8 September. Speir brings over 20 years of financial experience, including balance sheet management, M&A, strategic planning, and investor relations. United Community announced Sean Simpson has joined as chief commercial banking officer. Simpson brings over 25 years of banking and financial services experience to the role. In his new position, Simpson will lead United's commercial banking strategy and specialty banking lines, including asset-based lending, middle market, franchise, commercial real estate, renewable energy, treasury services, and public finance. Throughout his career, Simpson has led large, multi-line banking organisations, developed growth strategies, and recruited high-performing teams whilst improving sales productivity and financial performance. Carande brings 40 years of experience in financial services and Big Four consulting, with expertise in finance, enterprise risk, technology, and organisational strategy. He spent 25 years with KPMG, where he held senior leadership roles including Global Head of Advisory and US Advisory Vice Chair. During his tenure, he rebuilt the firm's Southeast Advisory practice and developed a Business Integration Risk Management offering.
