United Community Action Partnership, Inc. (UCAP) operates as a local nonprofit organization serving central and southwest Minnesota. It provides a range of community services to help people and reduce poverty across Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Redwood, and Renville counties. UCAP achieves its goals by pooling resources from two formerly separate groups (Heartland Community Action and Western Community Action) into a single entity, maintaining a grass-roots private nonprofit structure led by the communities it serves. Its main work involves coordinating aid and service programs—such as housing, emergency assistance, and other community supports—through partnerships and local engagement to address residents' needs in a practical, community-driven way.

Ribbon to be cut on UCAP homeless housing project in Willmar friday. (Willmar MN-) The ribbon will be cut in Willmar this afternoon for a housing development designed to help the homeless. United Community Action Partnership, or UCAP, received a 4.4 million dollar grant from The State of Minnesota and used the money to build apartments in an area on Willmar Avenue, across from Woodland Centers. At the ground-breaking event one year ago today, UCAP Executive Director Deb Brandt said they were chosen from among 98 applications to The Minnesota Department of Human Services for grants to address homelessness... ...UCAP says every month, on a fairly regular basis, they see 10 to 15 individuals or families, mostly from the local area, who are having housing issues for various reasons. Brandt says the state grant was used to build a four plex and an 8-plex on two lots... Brandt says the housing units were built off site and moved onto the lots. The contractor for the project is Marcus Construction. One of the units will be an office for an on-site staff person who will help the residents link up with public health, the food shelf, the SNAP nutrition program and for other purposes. There will be a washer and dryer and computer room on-site.
