Pakenham's new VicRoads takes shape.

Pakenham's new VicRoads takes shape. 18 March 2026 Media release. This month, VicRoads marked a construction milestone at 33 Exchange Drive, Pakenham, where the new centre is being built and is scheduled to open in late 2026. The project is set to improve customer services and customer experience across Victoria. The new centre will bring services together in one accessible location, consolidating services currently delivered across the Dandenong Customer Service Centre and the Pakenham Licence Testing Centre. For customers, that means a modern centre designed to deliver a better experience - with upgraded technology, improved accessibility and modern amenities to support faster, more efficient processing for licensing, registration and other customer transactions. The new site will serve customers from established communities across Melbourne's outer southeast - including the Princes corridor - as well as rapidly growing areas around Pakenham, popular with young families. The site will have easy access from the Princes Freeway, offering a full suite of services, including drive testing, vehicle inspections (including heavy vehicles) and counter support, so customers can get more done in one place. VicRoads CEO Giles Thompson said the milestone is big step forward for customers and for the VicRoads teams who support them every day. "We're very excited to be replacing older, run-down sites which are no longer fit-for-purpose with a modern centre that will make it easier for customers to get what they need and give our staff a better place to work." "The new centre will bring more services together in one place, with improved accessibility, better technology and a more comfortable experience, so customers can get more done in one visit. This construction milestone shows the project is moving well and brings us another step closer to opening in late 2026." What's happening on site now Key milestones include: foundations complete, underground stormwater complete, pre-cast panels erected and complete, structural steel erected and complete and roofing laid. Underground services are in progress and preparation is starting for the internal concrete slab. What this means for customers Most customers currently serviced by Dandenong will be around a 30-minute drive to the new Pakenham site. Customers can also use other centres in the broader region - including Heatherton, Ringwood and Seaford - depending on what's closest. VicRoads will keep services running at the current Dandenong and Pakenham centres until the new centre opens. VicRoads will confirm exact transition, opening and closure dates in late 2026.
