Expertise, exchange and new perspectives. By Antje Schmidtpeter Follow-up report on the 'Protective Wear Days 2026' in Landsberg: Expertise, networking and new perspectives for the protective clothing industry. On June 9-10, Dialog Textil-Bekleidung e.V. (DTB) and VEIT GmbH hosted the Protective Wear Days 2026 in Landsberg am Lech, creating a dedicated platform for professionals across the textile protective wear industry. Around 90 experts from industry, research and practice gathered to exchange knowledge, discuss current challenges and strengthen professional networks. The two-day event focused on key developments in protective wear, ranging from military and government protective equipment to specialized industrial applications. Through expert presentations, workshops and exhibitor contributions, participants explored topics such as textile expertise and material knowledge, quality management, processing technologies, supply chain management, certification requirements and digital product development supported by 3D and AI technologies. One of the key takeaways was the increasing complexity of modern protective wear. Safety requirements, functionality, material performance, fit, colour consistency and supply chain resilience must increasingly be addressed in an integrated way. Several speakers highlighted how digital technologies and data-driven processes are becoming essential tools in product development, tender management and quality assurance. Another important topic was the challenge of public tenders and secure supply chains, particularly in military and government procurement. Discussions emphasized the growing importance of quality, transparency and strong partnerships throughout the supply chain. In addition to the conference programme, exhibitors presented practical solutions ranging from sewing and processing technologies to lamination, welding applications, technical textiles, yarns and colour and surface measurement systems. A guided site visit at VEIT Group also provided valuable insights into advanced production and processing technologies. Participants particularly appreciated the event's open and collaborative atmosphere. Several attendees described the format as an "expert knowledge exchange" rather than a traditional trade fair, highlighting the practical discussions, accessibility and strong networking opportunities. As one participant summarized: "This personal, family-like atmosphere is something you do not find at trade fairs." Feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the high level of expertise, practical relevance and valuable networking opportunities. As a result, DTB and VEIT Group have already confirmed plans to continue the format in the future.
