Gore launches next-gen affinity solutions to strengthen membrane chromatography leadership. Published: 07 Apr 2026 W.L. Gore & Associates announced the collaboration with customized ligand partners to launch an innovative range of high-performance affinity membrane chromatography products. This initiative strengthens Gore's presence in the bio-processing sector beyond protein A-based solutions to advance purification performance and scalability for biopharmaceutical manufacturers. W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., based in Newark, DE, is collaborating to integrate partner-developed ligand technologies with its proven membrane platform. This platform provides innovative purification solutions across a broad range of biotherapeutic modalities. It offers a highly scalable, intensified purification system that delivers reliable performance from R&D and process development to clinical bioprocessing, with GMP-scale manufacturing and high binding capacity at fast residence times. Russ Hornung, a business development manager at Gore, stated, "At Gore, we are committed to helping our customers accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of vital therapies. By working with customized ligand partners, we're combining complementary expertise to bring advanced membrane-based affinity solutions to market and expand our role in downstream processing beyond only Protein A technology." According to the Precedence Research, the affinity chromatography market size accounted for USD 3.90 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 4.24 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 8.98 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAR of 8.70% from 2026 to 2035 due to the increasing demand for monoclonal antibodies and vaccines, massive investment in R&D, and introduction of high-purity and scalable purification technologies. The new products from Gore are designed to improve purification, productivity, scalability, and cost-effective solutions to reduce potential risk across applications like cell and gene therapies, highly specialized antibody-based therapy, and more. Ligand partners of Gore will market and distribute the affinity of membrane devices with their respective brands that ensure broad accessibility and consumer support across the globe. A recent report by Precedence Research highlights that the affinity chromatography market is benefiting from rapid advancements in resin technology and the adoption of automated, cost-efficient purification methods.
Sepion Technologies, a developer of advanced polymer coatings for lithium-ion battery separators, has raised $10 million in a Series B round led by Fine Structure Ventures. W. L. Gore & Associates and Syensqo Ventures participated as strategic investors, alongside Volo Earth Ventures, Chailease, Catalus Capital, Impact Science Ventures and ACVC Partners. The Alameda-based company will use the funding to scale US-based polymer production, fulfil commercial purchase orders and expand its product lines. Sepion is currently supporting multiple customer qualification programmes with global battery manufacturers for electric vehicle, energy storage and consumer electronics applications. Sepion's polymer coatings serve as drop-in replacements for legacy ceramic-coated separators, enabling immediate adoption without infrastructure changes. The technology delivers energy density improvements and is compatible with all battery chemistries, including next-generation manganese-rich cathodes.
W. L. Gore & Associates is expanding its membrane chromatography portfolio beyond Protein A-based solutions through collaborations with customised ligand partners. The partnerships will integrate partner-developed ligand technologies with Gore's membrane platform to deliver purification solutions for biotherapeutic applications including cell and gene therapies and specialised antibody-based therapies. The new affinity membrane devices are designed to enhance purification productivity, scalability and cost-effectiveness across research and development through to commercial manufacturing. Gore and its ligand partners will market and distribute the products under their respective brands. Gore's affinity membranes offer high binding capacity at fast residence times with low pressure drop, aiming to meet evolving bioprocessing needs. The expansion represents Gore's broader push into downstream bioprocessing applications beyond its existing Protein A technologies.
Gorewear, the athletic clothing brand owned by W.L. Gore & Associates, is shutting down permanently at the end of March 2026 after over 40 years in business. The brand, which created the first Gore-Tex cycling jacket, has begun a going-out-of-business sale to clear remaining inventory. Founded in 1984, Gorewear primarily served runners and cyclists with waterproof, breathable apparel. Whilst the Gorewear retail brand is closing, W.L. Gore & Associates will continue producing and licensing Gore-Tex fabrics to third-party brands. Gore-Tex material, accidentally discovered and initially marketed to outdoor enthusiasts, has become widely adopted across athletic wear and fashion industries for its durability, breathability and waterproof characteristics.
W. L. Gore & Associates has received CE mark approval for a new 6-10 mm diameter range for its GORE VIATORR TIPS Endoprosthesis with Controlled Expansion, used to treat portal hypertension. The device is the first approved TIPS system offering this diameter range, expanding from the previously available 8-10 mm option. The broader range gives physicians greater flexibility to customise treatment whilst minimising risks like hepatic encephalopathy and cardiac overload associated with excessive shunting. Built with Gore's proprietary ePTFE graft lining, the VIATORR Device is designed to resist bile and mucin permeation, common causes of patency loss. The device maintains over 25 years of clinical performance data, supported by more than 500 publications.
