Waterfall Asset Management

Institutional asset manager of structured credit

Overview

Waterfall Asset Management is an SEC-registered institutional asset manager that specializes in structured credit (asset-backed securities and loans) and private equity investments. It sources, analyzes, and purchases ABS and loan products across multiple sectors globally using a relative value approach to identify mispricings and potential upside. The firm leverages the experience of its founders and portfolio managers—who together have decades of ABS/loan analysis, trading, banking, and servicing expertise—to build portfolios intended to provide attractive risk-adjusted returns. With approximately $13.1 billion in assets under management as of December 1, 2024, Waterfall aims to deliver returns that are generally uncorrelated to many traditional investment sectors by focusing on multi-sector opportunities in structured credit and loans. Its goal is to deliver competitive, risk-managed outcomes for clients through disciplined research, sourcing, and active portfolio management.

Iwoca secures $318M debt facility amid $1.3B+ sale speculation

Small business lender Iwoca has secured a £250 million debt facility from a major bank and private credit firm Waterfall Asset Management. The credit line will enable the fintech to meet growing demand for larger loans from British SMEs. Iwoca's data shows the share of loans between £50,000 and £100,000 to small businesses nearly doubled from 27% to 42%. The company increased its lending by 60% in 2025. The facility arrives as Iwoca explores a potential sale process. The fintech has appointed tech investment bank Qatalyst to gauge market interest in a transaction that could value it above £1 billion. A source described the exercise as very early stage, noting "there is a likelihood that nothing will happen." The move comes amid increased dealmaking activity in the fintech and small business lending sector.
