Windfall Bio uses methane-eating microbes to convert methane emissions into organic nutrients, providing microbial products and related services to farmers. Its core offering is integrating these microbes into existing farming practices to reduce methane releases, create organic nutrients, and restore soil health while cutting reliance on synthetic fertilizers. This makes the company different from competitors by targeting both climate impact and soil productivity in a practical, farm-friendly way, delivering a combination of products and soil-health services that can be adopted without overhauling existing operations. The company's goal is to mitigate climate change by lowering methane emissions from agriculture and to improve profitability for farmers through healthier soil and reduced input costs.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Windfall Bio, a leader in methane-to-value solutions, announced its $28 million Series A funding round led by Prelude Ventures with participation from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, Global Brain (through its Norinchukin Innovation Fund L.P.), Incite Ventures, and Positive Ventures. Existing investors also participated in the round, including B37 Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Mayfield, and UNTITLED (a fund backed by the Tetra Laval family). Supporting its commercial pipeline, the new capital will enable Windfall to expand pilot deployments across methane intensive industries including agriculture, oil and gas, and waste management. Windfall will also invest resources to continue building out its team, manufacturing capacity and supply chain to meet growing global customer demand for methane mitigation solutions. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that is 86x more warming than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Methane concentrations in the atmosphere have more than doubled since preindustrial times and emissions from manmade and natural sources continue to accelerate
In the conversation on climate change, the focus often narrows to carbon dioxide (CO2), the predominant greenhouse gas from fossil fuels…
Distinguishing between heroes and villains can require some detailed scrutiny. When it comes to . [+] climate change it takes a microscope to see some of the most important actors because they are bacteria gettyIt is often said that a compelling drama needs both heroes and villains. The unfolding Climate Crisis is an all-too-real drama, and it involves human actors playing both of those roles. However, there are some important heroes and villains in the “cast” of the climate story that really need to be “put under the microscope.” That’s because they are too small to see with the naked eye - they are bacteria. These tiny “actors” often play a villainous role when they grow on our organic waste-streams because they can produce the potent greenhouse gas, methane
