Overview

WCB-Alberta administers the Workers’ Compensation Act for Alberta’s workers and employers, funded by employer premiums to provide disability and liability coverage for work-related injuries and illnesses, and it compensates lost income while coordinating recovery and return-to-work. When a workplace injury occurs, the premium-funded system offers income support and arranges health, rehabilitation, and other services to help the worker recover and go back to suitable work. It differs from private insurers by being a government-created, not-for-profit body that is funded by employer premiums and guided by public-service values like service, care, excellence, trust, and fairness. Its goal is to protect workers and employers by delivering fair, accessible compensation and coordinated return-to-work services that keep workers financially supported during injury and help them return to productive work.
