Workers' Compensation Board-Alberta (WCB)

Workers' Compensation Board-Alberta (WCB)

Administers workers' compensation, supports injured workers

Overview

WCB-Alberta administers the Workers’ Compensation Act for Alberta’s workers and employers and is funded by employer premiums to provide disability and liability coverage for work-related injuries and illnesses, paying lost income and coordinating services to help workers recover and return to work. When an injury or illness happens, the premium-funded system provides financial support and arranges health, rehabilitation, and other services to aid recovery and safe return to work. It differs from private insurers because it is a government-created, not-for-profit body that operates under provincial law and emphasizes public-service values over profit. Its goal is to protect workers and employers by delivering fair, accessible compensation and coordinated return-to-work services that support income during injury and help people return to productive work.
