Former U.S. soccer Olympian builds $20B tech giant, says resilience trumps talent

Jim Kavanaugh, former US Olympic soccer player, co-founded World Wide Technology, a Missouri-based tech company generating $20 billion in annual revenue. The 63-year-old, now worth $7.7 billion, credits resilience over raw talent for his success. Kavanaugh represented the US at the 1983 Pan American Games and 1984 Summer Olympics before founding his company in 1990. Despite being cut multiple times during his playing career, he says persistence separates those who advance from those who plateau. He points to Lionel Messi as exemplifying effective leadership, arguing the Argentine captain inspires teammates through actions rather than commands. Kavanaugh emphasises that success requires outworking the competition and seizing opportunities when they arise, even if it disrupts work-life balance temporarily.

Akamai selected as strategic security partner for WWT's AI security framework ARMOR

Akamai has been selected as a strategic security partner for World Wide Technology's AI Readiness Model for Operational Resilience (ARMOR) framework. The collaboration addresses the "security tax" enterprises face when traditional security systems compete with AI workloads for computing resources. ARMOR is described as the industry's first vendor-agnostic AI security framework, covering six domains including governance, model security, and data protection. Akamai's role centres on three pillars: eliminating performance trade-offs by integrating its Guardicore Segmentation with NVIDIA BlueField data processing units, securing agentic AI and data lakes through API security, and providing multilayered defence against DDoS attacks. The integration accelerates ransomware containment by an average of 21.4%, reaching 32.6% for large enterprises. WWT's Advanced Technology Centre serves as a testing ground for the ARMOR reference model.

WWT launches 'Defending at the Speed of AI' initiative with Horizon3.ai, Empirical Security, Infoblox, and Cognition

World Wide Technology has launched "Defending at the Speed of AI", a cybersecurity initiative developed with Horizon3.ai, Empirical Security, Infoblox and Cognition to counter AI-powered cyberattacks. The programme addresses the accelerating pace of threats as AI models enable vulnerabilities to be discovered in hours rather than weeks. The integrated solution combines continuous autonomous testing, risk prioritisation, upstream threat prevention and AI-accelerated remediation. Horizon3.ai provides autonomous testing, Empirical Security ranks exposures by exploitability, Infoblox prevents threats through protective DNS, and Cognition's Devin generates patches at machine speed. Available through WWT's Advanced Technology Centre and Cyber Range, the solution allows customers to test the integrated stack against AI-driven attack scenarios before production deployment. WWT will provide advisory, integration and managed services support.

WWT and CrowdStrike launch Securing AI Lab to test enterprise AI systems with unified security

World Wide Technology and CrowdStrike have launched the Securing AI with CrowdStrike Lab within WWT's AI Proving Ground. Built on NVIDIA AI factories, the lab enables enterprises to test, validate and deploy AI systems with unified security before production. The lab integrates CrowdStrike's Falcon platform into AI environments based on NVIDIA Enterprise AI Factory validated design, delivering protection across infrastructure, cloud and runtime layers. It addresses risks including misconfigurations, data exposure and prompt injection as organisations scale AI adoption. The partnership combines WWT's infrastructure expertise and AI Readiness Model for Operational Resilience with CrowdStrike's security platform, allowing customers to move from GPU investment to production with enhanced visibility, governance and control. The lab operates within WWT's Advanced Technology Center.

F5 partners with WWT on ARMOR framework to secure AI deployments across hybrid environments

F5 has announced enhanced support for World Wide Technology's AI Readiness Model for Operational Resilience (ARMOR), a vendor-agnostic AI security framework. Built jointly with NVIDIA, ARMOR helps organisations secure AI deployments across hybrid environments where data moves between platforms, APIs and connection points. The framework comprises six primary domains covering the full AI lifecycle: governance, risk and compliance; secure AI operations; model protection; secure development lifecycle; infrastructure security; and data protection. F5's Application Delivery and Security Platform integrates across these domains, offering capabilities including AI traffic inspection, threat detection, runtime security and post-quantum cryptography readiness. ARMOR provides a scalable, modular approach to AI security that can be refined as new technologies join the ecosystem, addressing the expanded attack surface created by hybrid AI platforms.
