What WuXi AppTec does: It provides a global, integrated open-access platform for contract research, development, and manufacturing services (CRDMO) to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. How its products work: Clients access a broad portfolio of capabilities—laboratory testing, process development, and manufacturing—across the full product lifecycle, from discovery and preclinical work to clinical and commercial production, often supported by strategic acquisitions to extend reach. How it differs from competitors: It combines extensive geographic reach with a wide, end-to-end service portfolio in one platform, rather than focusing on a narrow stage or region. What its goal is: To help innovators bring new medicines and healthcare products to market faster and with high quality.

WuXi AppTec says it runs one "One Global Quality System" across all its sites, rather than letting each location set local standards. From 2024 through the first half of 2026, it completed 2,008 quality audits and inspections by customers, regulators, and third parties, with no critical findings. The system aligns standards, procedures, and training across the network. Dirk Tormans, the company's head of quality assurance, said a qualification audit at an API facility can cut the time customers spend reviewing the same elements at a downstream drug-product site. At its Couvet, Switzerland site, the company took over a client's Phase 3 manufacturing and completed process transfer and scale-up within five months. The client submitted its New Drug Application on time, and Swissmedic, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Brazil's ANVISA later inspected the site without halting production.
WuXi AppTec reported strong first-half 2026 results and raised its full-year guidance. The Chinese pharmaceutical contract research, development, and manufacturing organisation posted H1 revenue of RMB 28.90 billion, up 38.9% year-on-year, with continuing operations revenue rising 48.0%. Adjusted non-IFRS net profit increased 83.2% to RMB 11.57 billion, whilst the gross profit margin expanded 9.4 percentage points to 53.9%. The company's backlog for continuing operations grew 25.2% to RMB 66.43 billion as of 30 June 2026. WuXi AppTec raised its 2026 total revenue target to RMB 58.5–60.5 billion, up from RMB 51.3–53.0 billion previously. The firm also increased its capital expenditure guidance to RMB 7.5–8.5 billion to support accelerated global capacity expansion. The company addressed its inclusion on the US Department of Defence's 1260H list, calling it erroneous and confirming legal action to protect stakeholder interests.
WuXi AppTec DMPK has launched an automated compound management platform serving thousands of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies worldwide, with storage capacity exceeding one million compounds. The system provides full lifecycle management through digital operations, featuring automated robotic retrieval, real-time weighing data integration with high-precision balances, and automated preparation via Hamilton systems. The platform addresses three major challenges in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics research: diverse container types, large compound libraries, and strict storage requirements. Key capabilities include real-time logistics tracking, image recognition-based automated picking, and high-density mobile storage delivering approximately fourfold capacity versus fixed-cabinet layouts. The system maintains tamper-proof audit logs and role-based access control whilst integrating with the Mosaic Compound Management System. WuXi AppTec DMPK offers flexible managed services covering sample receipt, secure storage, distribution, and disposal, aiming to reduce operational costs and accelerate research timelines.
WuXi AppTec is expanding its global manufacturing capabilities for emerging drug modalities including peptides, oligonucleotides and targeted protein degraders, according to Pharma Manufacturing. The company's WuXi TIDES platform, focused on oligonucleotides and peptides, is projected to achieve approximately 40% year-on-year revenue growth in 2026. The company's solid-phase peptide synthesis reactor volume exceeded 100,000 litres at end-2025 and is expected to reach 130,000 litres by end-2026. New production facilities are under construction in Taixing, China, scheduled for 2027 operation, and Singapore, planned for 2028. WuXi AppTec is investing in process technologies combining solid-phase and liquid-phase synthesis to improve scalability for complex molecules. The company is also developing integrated approaches for antibody-drug conjugates and targeted protein degraders, incorporating earlier-stage chemistry and biology integration.
WuXi AppTec has been added to the Pentagon's list of "Chinese military companies", escalating tensions between the pharmaceutical manufacturer and the US. The Department of Defence updated its Section 1260H list on 8 June, adding WuXi alongside other Chinese firms including BYD and Comac. The DoD claims WuXi has links to China's State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and the People's Liberation Army. WuXi strongly denied the designation, calling it "clearly a mistake" and stating it is not owned, controlled or affiliated with any Chinese military or government entity. The contract research and manufacturing organisation, which operates in over 30 countries, reported revenues of $1.83 billion in Q1 2026, up 39.4% year-over-year. WuXi was previously removed from the BIOSECURE Act in October 2025.
