Tokyo selects Yusen Logistics as freight forwarder for fuel initiative. Jun 2, 2026 at 8:48 AM Yusen Logistics has been selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as a freight forwarder for a project aimed at promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and biofuels in the logistics sector. The goal of the project is to reduce Scope 3 emissions generated by companies' supply chains, as stated by the company. As part of this initiative, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government supports companies that use SAF or biofuels for their air and sea freight transport by collaborating with selected freight forwarders. It covers all or part of the additional costs incurred from using these alternative fuels. The project started in fiscal year 2024 with a focus on air freight and was expanded to sea freight in fiscal year 2026. Collaboration for transport solutions. According to Yusen Logistics, the company collaborates globally with airlines and shipping companies to develop environmentally friendly transport networks. These networks utilize alternative fuels derived from sources such as used cooking oil. In May 2025, the company launched the "Alternative Fuel" initiative, which aims to maximize the ecological benefits of using renewable fuels in air, sea, and land transport. The environmental advantages of this initiative can be directly attributed to customers in the 46 countries and regions where Yusen Logistics operates, according to the company, regardless of the actual location of fuel use.
