ZymoChem develops microbial bioprocesses that convert renewable sugars into chemicals used in everyday consumer products. It licenses engineered microbial strains and accompanying bioprocess technologies to chemical manufacturers, generating revenue from licensing fees, royalties, and partnerships. Clients apply these licensed microbes in their own plants or through contract manufacturers, fermenting sugars to produce target chemicals with scale-up support from ZymoChem. Its approach centers on a licensing-based model and renewable-feedstock chemistry to provide sustainable, scalable alternatives to petrochemical production for the consumer-chemical market.

Agile BioFoundry, ZymoChem announce partnership to advance the bioeconomy. ZymoChem, the biotechnology leader dedicated to creating alternative materials for everyday products, announced a partnership with the Agile BioFoundry (ABF), funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), to enhance development of its bioproducts. In collaboration with the ABF, a consortium of U.S. National Laboratories focused on advancing industrial biomanufacturing of fuels and chemicals, ZymoChem will enhance its research on bio-adipic acid, a critical precursor ingredient to manufacturing bio-nylon 6,6.
ZymoChem, based in San Leandro, California, was awarded $1.57 million to plan a bioproduction facility for biobased monomers used to fabricate military fabrics, tactical gear, parachute systems, aerospace materials, and other high-performance materials.
For instance, in July 2024, ZymoChem launched BAYSE, the super absorbent polymer that is ductile, completely bio-dependent, and biodegradable.
ZymoChem, a biotech company dedicated to creating sustainable materials for everyday products, announced the launch of Bayse, the world's first scalable, 100% bio-based, and biodegradable super absorbent polymer (SAP).
Addressing these concerns head-on, ZymoChem, based in San Leandro, California, has introduced the groundbreaking Carbon Conservation fermentation technology.
