Requirements
  • A minimum of 12 months of construction materials testing experience is required.
  • An ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Level I Certification is required.
  • Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety Training Certification is required.
  • Understanding of the Proctor Compaction Test and United States’ Unified Soil Classification System is required.
  • ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification is required.
  • The technician must pass relevant tests and/or achieve valid signatures.
  • The technician must be able to create and maintain accurate and confidential test records and prepare understandable reports.
  • The technician must be skilled in using computers and common software applications and able to learn company-specific software and programs.
  • The technician must be able to follow directions and communicate effectively.
  • The technician must be able to drive a company vehicle and comply with company operating and safety guidelines.
  • The technician must be able to lift or carry objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • The technician must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and maneuver physically through construction sites and excavations.
  • The technician must be able to comprehend written and verbal communications in English and communicate directly and by telephone.
  • The technician must possess a valid driver’s license from their state of residence.
  • The technician must be insurable under applicable corporation insurance policies and requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Provide testing observations on assigned field projects according to applicable specifications for independent testing laboratories.
  • Prepare, collect, and test samples of soil, concrete, grout, mortar, and asphalt.
  • Perform field observations and document construction activities on site.
  • Identify, verbally communicate, and document test results and activities for advanced-level testing.
  • Review civil and structural plans and specifications and identify sections applicable to the work scope.
  • Perform tests, general construction inspections, and observations according to project requirements with little to no supervision.
  • Submit daily field reports documenting testing, inspections, and field observations.
  • Document and communicate nonconforming items to designated project supervision.
  • Clean, maintain, and calibrate assigned equipment according to applicable codes and standards.
  • Transport, operate, and care for a nuclear density gauge in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.
  • Perform One-Point Proctor testing in the field.
  • Read detailed plans and specifications.
  • Perform mortar and grout sampling and testing.
  • Monitor asphalt placement.
  • Work night shifts, weekends, early mornings, and schedule changes as required by construction schedules.
  • Travel daily to construction sites and periodically perform out-of-town assignments.
