Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduation from a recognized surgical technology program or successful completion of military training in surgical technology is required; military education documentation must include a DD214 demonstrating graduation from a military training program.
  • In Illinois, a high school diploma or GED plus three years working as a surgical technologist in a healthcare setting may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
  • One of the following certifications is required: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist surgical team members in providing intraoperative care to perioperative patients by preparing and monitoring equipment, passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, assisting with patient transfer and positioning, and performing a variety of surgical skills and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in surgical technology is preferred.
  • One year of surgery experience is preferred.
