About the job

Requirements
  • Proficiency in Linux backend development, especially long-running services, servers, and networking-heavy software.
  • Proficiency with Docker containers and systemd.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and TypeScript.
  • Proficiency in using AI coding tools to quickly learn new systems and languages.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/UDP networking, serial communication, and the Linux networking stack.
  • Ability to reason about the full stack from sensor to screen, including how latency, data fidelity, and display choices affect operator decision-making.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of Linux server ground station systems, including radar, radio, and other hardware integrations, backend development, networking, logging, video streaming, and telemetry streaming.
  • Collaborate with end users to design UI/UX flows that reflect operator workflows, minimize cognitive load, surface relevant information, and degrade gracefully when communications or sensors are degraded.
  • Travel with the system to exercises and demonstrations, collect operator feedback firsthand, and rapidly iterate on the software based on real-world use.
  • Integrate new systems in the field, including radars, radios, and other customer-needed hardware.
  • Write software in Java and Kotlin using the Android development ecosystem, including Android Studio, ADB, and Gradle, for tablet control of aircraft.
  • Travel 10–20% to integrate new hardware and demonstrate the system to users.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience.
  • Experience designing robust, high-uptime, long-lived Linux services.
  • Experience with federated computing.
  • UX/UI sensibility.
  • Working knowledge of MAVLink.

About the company

Arxlight develops autonomous interceptor drones for air and missile defense. The drones use LWIR sensors, computer vision, autonomy software, and an integrated GNC stack to autonomously detect, identify, and intercept threats through sensor fusion and automated flight. It differentiates itself with a defense-first, stealth-mode approach and by recruiting senior engineers to build a sensor-rich platform tailored for national security rather than consumer markets. The goal is to deliver next-generation capabilities for air and missile defense and counter-drone operations for military and national-security customers.

What believers are saying

  • August 2026 hiring shows active buildout across 18 on-site roles in Oakland.
  • Website and postings emphasize integrated air defense, matching urgent U.S. counter-UAS demand.
  • Experienced founders and senior engineering recruiting signal credible execution momentum.

What critics are saying

  • No public funding, contracts, or deployed systems; revenue timing stays opaque.
  • April 2026 post-production leadership roles imply Arxlight lacks fielded products today.
  • Anduril, Lockheed Martin, and nLIGHT can outspend Arxlight before 2027 procurement.

What makes Arxlight unique

  • Stealth-mode Oakland team builds autonomous interceptor drones for air and missile defense.
  • Hiring spans LWIR, computer vision, GNC, firmware, and robotics hardware roles.
  • Paul White joined June 2025 after drone engineering leadership at Anduril.
