About the Job

Requirements

  • You have passed the Wirtschaftsprüfer examination or are close to passing it, or you have held responsibility for statutory financial statements of medium-sized companies for several years.
  • You have prepared financial statements yourself, not only audited them, and understand the difference between a formally complete statement and one that provides meaningful insight.
  • You have presented commercial insight directly to business owners, rather than only reporting to a manager.
  • You are proficient in German Commercial Code (HGB) accounting for medium-sized businesses, including inventory valuation, work in progress, and shareholder accounts, and can defend your position.
  • You use artificial intelligence as a regular tool for plausibility checks, anomaly detection in account movements, planning logic, and drafting.
  • You maintain quality standards under deadline pressure and are willing to learn from practitioners.

Responsibilities

  • Own the ongoing accounting for client engagements with a high degree of automation and increase automation to reduce manual effort.
  • Own statutory annual financial statements, including notes and reports, as a standalone deliverable for the business owner.
  • Define when a financial statement is ready for completion and establish a standard that holds under deadline pressure, including a dual-review process within the line.
  • Lead monthly or quarterly conversations with business owners and translate financial results into actionable guidance.
  • Build planning and control based on ongoing accounting, including profit, balance-sheet, and liquidity planning with scenarios, forecasts, actual-versus-plan comparisons, and contribution margins.
  • Support financing and bank discussions, prepare clients for rating assessments, and identify liquidity reserves in working capital and receivables management.
  • Lead the team functionally and disciplinarily, including reviews, escalation decisions, performance discussions, and participation in hiring.
  • Develop experience levels within the team, assigning financial statement preparation and control discussions according to capability rather than seniority.
  • Design control services so they can be delivered repeatedly and scaled with client volume.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of planning and financing, including integrated multi-year planning, investment appraisal, and bank rating logic.
  • Enough tax insight to recognize when a statutory accounting decision has tax relevance; personally providing the solution is not required.
  • Background as a balance-sheet accountant with substantial personal responsibility for financial statements, a tax advisor focused on accounting and controlling, or an auditor with deep experience serving medium-sized businesses.
