Research Assistant - Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules

Organization Overview

Researchers in the Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules are working on projects related to the human microbiome, bacterial small molecules, and host-microbial interactions. The lab's research is focused on identifying bacterial genes, pathways, and molecules that influence host-cellular functions and developing these host-microbial interactions into novel treatments for human disease. To this end, we focus on three major areas of research: 1) high throughput screening of bacterial metabolites and genes to identify effector functions, 2) mouse models of inflammatory and metabolic diseases, and 3) in vivo validation of bacterial metabolites and genes in human cohorts.
Overview

The Research Assistant will independently carry out and assist with molecular biology and microbiology experiments conducted in the laboratory.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Perform molecular biology and microbiology experiments, including DNA cloning, PCR, bacterial culture, and protein purification.
• Conduct experiments independently and in collaboration with other laboratory members.
• Maintain strong organizational practices, attention to detail, and accurate research records.
• Communicate effectively and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced research environment.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA or BS in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biology, or a related field.
• Extensive laboratory bench research experience during college.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced research environment.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and follow standard operating procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical-thinking ability, and the ability to work independently.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with standard molecular biology and microbiology techniques, including DNA cloning, PCR, bacterial culture, and protein purification.
• Experience working independently at the laboratory bench.

The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
