  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the ongoing development and productivity of one or more work units and maintain quality of care within those units or programs.
  • Assist the Director with operational planning and provide daily work direction to achieve unit-level care and organizational objectives.
  • Contribute to budget development and maintain responsibility for achieving budgetary objectives.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, coaching, counseling, and ensuring performance appraisals are completed.
  • Track and maintain productivity and quality.
  • Collaborate with the Director and interdisciplinary team to standardize, update, and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Ensure quality care and compliance with internal standards and regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with marketing and community care departments on the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
  • Assume 24-hour responsibility and accountability for supervised units.
  • Participate in annual operational planning and execute priorities to implement the operating plan.
  • Promote staff accountability and empowerment through formal and informal mechanisms.
  • Maintain quality patient care through clinical expertise, the nursing process, and effective supervisory skills.
  • Participate in unit and level-of-care quality assurance processes.
  • Review or coordinate quality variance report reviews, identify trends, and develop action plans.
  • Identify staff learning needs and work with Senior Specialists to address them.
  • Ensure standards of care are implemented, evaluated, and updated.
  • Review, revise, develop, and maintain safety policies and procedures related to department activities and the work environment.
  • Work with Biomed, Risk Management, and other groups to support ongoing compliance.
  • Maintain operating units within budgeted cost per unit of service and develop action plans when costs exceed budget.
  • Identify and operationalize cost-reduction measures or revenue-enhancement opportunities.
  • Maintain unit productivity above 97% overall.
  • Develop and manage strategic, tactical, and annual business plans for service lines aligned with organizational and system-wide goals.
  • Identify clinical improvement opportunities that generate new business or improve services.
  • Develop financial analyses for new programs and services, including financial viability and fiscal impacts.
  • Incorporate external factors, regulations, and healthcare policies affecting service reimbursement.
  • Analyze performance, monitor trends and opportunities, and recommend service and quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with system and hospital vice presidents and directors on strategic planning and implementation of new programs and services.
  • Generate marketing opportunities and collaborate with marketing to promote programs and services.
  • Ensure timely staff performance appraisals and institute developmental or corrective action plans as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix for optimal unit functioning.
  • Provide pertinent information to staff through meetings and other formal and informal communication.
  • Enable staff participation in scheduling and staffing and ensure schedules are posted on time.
  • Assist staff in accessing Human Resources and Employee Assistance Program services.
  • Maintain current employee records.
  • Institute change in support of unit, level-of-care, and organizational goals.
  • Maintain productive relationships with medical staff, peers, patients, families, directors, and senior administrators.
  • Communicate positively and timely with staff, employees, physicians, patients, and visitors.
  • Identify organizational or unit problems, develop or contribute to resolution plans, and implement those plans.
  • Trend patient and customer satisfaction and implement action plans.
  • Build effective teams.
  • Lead or participate in system-integration task forces.
  • Collaborate with specialty service-line staff and facilitate information sharing and project coordination between facilities.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with cardiac and vascular system staff, departments, healthcare committees, physicians, and other agencies.
  • Establish and maintain communication systems supporting service-line and program development.
  • Use communication strategies with individuals and groups to achieve intended outcomes.
  • Facilitate integration of personnel into high-performing teams.
  • Communicate with clinical managers and medical directors to provide education to nursing staff and noncompliant physicians.
  • Participate in supervisory committees, system cath lab manager meetings, cardiovascular leadership meetings, physician meetings, and other pertinent meetings.
  • Achieve at least three professional-responsibility activities, such as annual goal setting, professional organization participation, conferences or seminars, community advisory boards or task forces, professional publication, public speaking, facility or departmental tours, special projects, systemwide committees, or preceptorship programs.

This prestigious designation recognizes the hospital as a leader in delivering advanced, coordinated heart care. The certification is reserved for hospitals that provide a full range of heart care services across every stage of care - from prevention and early intervention to complex procedures, recovery and long-term management. Fewer than a dozen hospitals in California - and just three dozen nationwide - have earned this designation. What this means for patients For patients, the recognition signifies access to comprehensive, seamless and evidence-based heart care. As a Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Sharp Memorial offers a team-based approach, where specialists work together to ensure patients, both in inpatient and outpatient settings, receive timely diagnosis, advanced treatment and continued support tailored to their condition. Donate your vintage treasures for the Hospital Auxiliary's Summer Fair fundraiser. * May 14, 2026 Updated May 14, 2026 * 0 The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its Summer Fair on Friday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the hospital's Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. At last fall's Holiday Fair, Auxiliary Volunteer Mari Gilbert introduced her fun vintage items of family heirlooms and collectibles for sale. Gilbert assured the fundraising planners, "If it's old, somebody wants it!" Purchasing "Vintage" is a current trend to recycle items instead of discarding them in landfills. And to relive a time past. Clothing, handbags, china, toys, and games all play a part. At Gilbert's booth, look for 80's to today's fashion, including denim, leather jackets, designer items, rock and roll t-shirts, and jewelry for both men and women. If you are looking for a Father's Day gift, consider a military or nautical collectible, print, or antique. What are some of the more unusual things that will be available? Check out Hotel del Coronado memorabilia from the 1930s when Gilbert's grandmother actually lived there. Coronadonewsca need donations! Given their popularity, the Auxiliary is asking for residents to consider donating items that are taking up too much room at home or in their storage units! Do you have an 80's big shoulder pad jacket hanging in your closet? Your child's old lunch box with Roy Rogers or Star Wars characters can become someone's new treasure. An evening bag, costume jewelry, old Levi's, luggage from 1950, and nearly anything military or nautical will make a perfect donation for a great cause. They will be sold at the Fair, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the hospital. No furniture or large items can be accepted due to space constraints. Contact Gloria Aberasturi at 619-402-0402 to arrange to donate your objects no later than May 22. Additional artists and vendors will be selling their wares, including many unique handmade items. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital's programs and projects. Home decor, handmade newborn outfits, charcuterie boards, bottle carriers, housewares, cloth carry bags, handcrafted greeting cards, jewelry, homemade jams, and hostess gifts will be for sale. Specialty Accessories, a favorite vendor, will have a large selection of clothing for sale. Pouch Leather Bags is returning with many sizes and colors. Once again, Pampered Chef will be displaying their amazing range of cooking tools. The Auxiliary's Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to clients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only times they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary. After you shop, please enjoy the food of the delicious Nono Jose Argentinas food truck vendor. Don't miss their wonderful empanadas! Most of the funds raised at this event will be directed to the Auxiliary's pledge in support of the Primary Stroke Center, offering expert stroke care to its community. Additionally, the Auxiliary has begun supporting the Katy Green and Cathy McJannet Nursing Scholarship program. Sharp Rees-Stealy opens 75,000 sq ft medical centre in Chula Vista with 375-space car park

PMB, a healthcare real estate developer, has completed a 75,000-square-foot medical outpatient building for Sharp Rees-Stealy in Chula Vista, California. The three-storey facility consolidates services from two existing sites, offering expanded primary, urgent, specialty and rehabilitation care. Located at Chula Vista Center Mall on H Street, the building features imaging services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and multiple specialty departments including cardiology, neurology and sports medicine. A 127,000-square-foot parking structure with 375 spaces connects to the medical centre via a second-floor pedestrian bridge. The project continues PMB's partnership with Sharp HealthCare dating back to the 1970s. HGW served as architect, with Pacific Building Group as general contractor. PMB has developed over 130 healthcare facilities totalling approximately 6.5 million square feet.
