About the job

Requirements
  • At least 15 years of hands-on hardware engineering experience on shipped products such as vehicles, robotics, industrial equipment, or comparable physical systems operating in demanding environments.
  • Demonstrated depth in both mechanical and electrical engineering, including the ability to credibly lead designs and design reviews in both disciplines and make trade-offs at their boundaries.
  • Experience taking a product from architecture through design for manufacturing, supplier qualification, pilot build, and volume production.
  • Direct experience with electromechanical actuation systems such as steering, braking, and drive systems, including surrounding controls, firmware, and printed circuit board work.
  • Hands-on competence in printed circuit board design and review, harness design, mechanical computer-aided design, lab and bench-level bring-up, and hardware debugging with an oscilloscope.
  • A track record of working on reliable hardware designed to survive continuous operation in hostile environments.
Responsibilities
  • Set architectural direction for retrofit kits and integrated vehicle platforms across generations, balancing cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Own integration points between mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical subsystems, including sensor mounts, compute enclosures, wiring harnesses, actuation mechanisms, and power distribution, ensuring field durability.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing rigor so the fleet can be produced at volume without continuous engineering involvement on the production line.
  • Partner with software teams on the next generation of the drive-by-wire stack, covering steering, braking, throttle, and the vehicle interface.
  • Define redundancy architecture for drive-by-wire subsystems, including full dual-redundancy requirements, degraded-mode fallback, and safe states for failure scenarios.
  • Lead technical work toward a certified drive-by-wire solution meeting functional-safety standards and unlock driverless operation at scale, including vendor selection and qualification.
  • Own future sensor-suite designs across relevant sensing modalities, optimized for aviation-specific requirements, airside survivability, and cost.
  • Harden compute and sensor enclosures against the airside environment using field-failure data and drive vehicle reliability improvements.
  • Standardize the vehicle bill of materials and assembly documentation to make fleet builds and installations repeatable, high-quality, and serviceable.
  • Select and qualify suppliers and contract manufacturers, and manage the technical relationship with them.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, printed circuit board revisions, and the transition from prototype through pilot production into volume manufacturing.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with functional-safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or aerospace equivalents, and the engineering discipline they impose on hardware design.
  • Direct experience designing or qualifying certified drive-by-wire systems or comparable safety-critical electromechanical systems.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers at a scale of hundreds to thousands of units per year.
  • Background in commercial vehicles, off-highway equipment, industrial robotics, or aerospace ground systems, where environmental and reliability constraints resemble those of the role more closely than consumer or pure on-road automotive contexts.
  • Prior experience as the most senior individual contributor in a hardware organization, setting direction, mentoring staff engineers, and partnering with engineering leadership without managing a team.

About the company

AeroVect builds digital software solutions for the aviation industry. Its platform, based on JavaScript, is used to deliver web and mobile applications and data-driven tools for aviation customers such as airlines, airports, and related businesses. The product likely runs as a web-based service or subscription, enabling users to access, customize, and deploy aviation-focused software and analytics from a browser or app. Unlike general software firms, AeroVect targets aviation-specific workflows and data needs, leveraging a JavaScript-based platform to offer scalable digital products and possibly professional services like custom development or data analysis. The company’s goal is to help aviation stakeholders manage software, data, and operations more efficiently by providing practical digital solutions that can be deployed and consumed through a cloud-based platform.

What believers are saying

  • AeroVect raised debt on April 30, 2026, after its September 2024 Series A.
  • Its careers page updated August 6, 2026, showing active hiring and expansion.
  • Point One's August 19, 2025 partnership improves positioning precision for autonomous runway operations.

What critics are saying

  • Revenue depends on slow airport procurement; pilots with GAT and dnata still validate.
  • OEMs and incumbents can bundle GSE autonomy into fleet contracts.
  • A fatal airside incident would halt deployments, trigger lawsuits, and crush trust.

What makes AeroVect unique

  • OEM-agnostic AeroVect Driver retrofits existing GSE, avoiding fleet replacement.
  • It focuses on airside autonomy, where aircraft crossings and ramp safety dominate.
  • AeroVect claims the largest airside driving dataset and most live-production miles.
