Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of coding experience or an AHIMA/AAPC certification is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to people at varying levels throughout the patient care process are required.
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of information are required.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, role-specific software packages, and keyboard use is required.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately code and abstract basic services, including outpatient diagnostic testing, Emergency Department, laboratory, radiology, minor primary care services, and other less complex medical coding, following appropriate coding guidelines and applicable Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payer guidelines.
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes within established coding guidelines, rules, and regulations. Coding may include professional coding for minor primary care, urgent care, and/or Emergency Department episodes; reviewing evaluation and management codes and CPT procedure codes; facility charging for evaluation and management levels, CPT procedures, and/or medication administration in Emergency Department or observation units; and hospital coding for diagnoses and/or CPT procedure coding for Emergency Department, laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic services.
  • Review medical documentation and validate that it sufficiently supports assigned codes to ensure the integrity of coded patient records.
  • Communicate with providers to clarify information or request additional documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to meet monthly departmental goals, which may include DNFB, Pre-AR, denials, and claim edits.
  • Research patient accounts to respond to questions and/or errors.
  • Comply with established departmental productivity and accuracy standards.
  • Verify the correct discharge disposition based on medical documentation as needed.
  • Remain knowledgeable about current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements applicable to the assigned area, and ensure compliance.
  • Comply with the employer's Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including promptly reporting known or suspected unethical or questionable conduct and patient/employee safety, privacy, or other compliance concerns.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)- or American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC)-accredited coding program with certification is preferred.

Cognito Therapeutics and Ochsner Health launch Gulf South brain health collaboratory for Alzheimer's care

Cognito Therapeutics has partnered with Ochsner Health to launch a Brain Health Collaboratory in the Gulf South, advancing new care models for Alzheimer's disease. The collaboration will combine Cognito's investigational Spectris technology with Ochsner's clinical network across Louisiana, Mississippi and surrounding areas. The partnership will develop a Brain Health Index to track cognitive health and disease progression whilst exploring integration of Spectris therapy into clinical care. The collaboratory will also examine coverage pathways for dual-eligible Medicare and Medicaid populations. Ochsner Health Secures $46M Development Funding

Ochsner Health has secured $46 million in development funding for a new orthopedic and sports medicine complex in New Orleans. This is part of a $300 million joint venture development pipeline for healthcare properties, involving Catalyst Healthcare Real Estate and Heitman. The complex will be operated in partnership with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, NBA's Pelicans, and Andrews Medicine.
