Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training, or job experience equivalent to four years of college education in social services, social work, or a closely related field.
  • Over two years and up to and including four years of child welfare experience.
  • A valid state driver's license.
  • Certification as a Guardian ad Litem.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, decipher cases for safety and intervention, and resolve re-victimization issues.
  • Ability to read professional publications, speak to groups and members of the public, present training, and compose reports and training materials.
  • Ability to perform professional-level administrative or technical work and solve complex administrative problems.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations pursuant to child welfare and coordinate family planning.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work involving extended walking or standing and recurring exertion of 10 to 20 pounds.
  • Normal visual acuity, field of vision, speech, hearing abilities, and color perception.
Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision, support, and assistance to assigned volunteer Guardians ad Litem to help ensure appropriate, effective, and timely advocacy for abused or neglected children.
  • Participate in volunteer training classes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing volunteer appreciation initiatives and prepare recognition articles for the program newsletter.
  • Keep the Volunteer Coordinator informed of Guardians ad Litem available to accept new cases and maintain profiles and preferences of Guardians ad Litem.
  • Mentor each Guardian ad Litem through their first case and schedule and facilitate meetings to develop case strategies.
  • Contact Guardians ad Litem within 48 hours of court appearances to debrief activity and support preparation of monitoring plans.
  • Provide ongoing professional and emotional support to Guardians ad Litem and maintain monthly contact in person or by telephone.
  • Attend Department of Social Services protocol staffings and EPC probable cause hearings according to the rotation schedule.
  • Record attorney billable time in case files.
  • Monitor case progress and compliance and maintain accurate, up-to-date case files.
  • Attend court hearings with volunteers or act as a Guardian ad Litem at hearings.
  • Respond to inquiries, concerns, complaints, and requests for assistance within the areas of responsibility.
  • Compile data and prepare records and reports for the department, County, and other agencies.
  • Perform administrative and clerical work, including attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, reviewing mail and literature, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, and answering the telephone.
  • Attend training, conferences, seminars, and meetings to increase job knowledge and skills.
