Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One to two years of experience working in human services with homeless individuals, people living in poverty, or people experiencing substance use disorder or mental health conditions is required.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain CPR certification.
  • Ability to defuse crisis situations both within team settings and independently.
  • Ability to document program events and complete scheduled or spontaneous tasks.
  • Ability to apply training and skill-building information.
  • Ability to work the schedule at least two weeks in advance, including possible on-call duties and regular scheduled hours.
  • Ability to attend mandatory staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competence and integrate it into daily responsibilities.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise guests in the program, explain program policies and rules, and communicate potential consequences for violations.
  • Address guests' immediate basic needs and orient them to the warming center program.
  • Provide snacks or meals, linens, containers for belongings, and hygiene supplies.
  • Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and support as needed.
  • Assist community providers and social services with guests' individual service needs, and promote activities that build daily living and independent living skills.
  • Plan, conduct, and monitor guest group meetings and other activities.
  • Maintain statistical accountability, complete clear daily log entries, and keep the daily log and census current.
  • Complete shift-specific tasks such as chore assignments, cleaning, laundry, and intake sheets.
  • Maintain shift-to-shift communication in the staff journal.
  • Answer the telephone, respond to inquiries, and provide resources and referrals.
  • Conduct nightly facility safety checks, including sleeping and resting areas; document maintenance or repair needs; address immediate safety concerns; and monitor fire, security, and alarm systems.
  • Conduct basic intake for each new guest.
