Requirements
- Must have an MD or DO degree.
- Must hold current board certification in Endocrinology from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
- Must have two years of post-residency clinical experience and pharmacotherapy experience in obesity medicine or endocrinology, or have completed an accredited Fellowship program in Endocrinology or Obesity Medicine instead.
- Must hold an active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state and be eligible to obtain additional state licenses.
- Must currently be opted in with Medicare.
- Must demonstrate competency and comfort managing complex comorbidities, including chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, and cardiovascular conditions.
- Must have expertise in advanced diabetes management, including continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and complex insulin regimens.
- Must be interested in mentoring, teaching, and collaborating with Endocrine-specialized advanced practice providers and Registered Dietitians specializing in diabetes, as needed.
- Must have experience working with advanced practice providers, medical residents, or trainees in a clinical academic setting.
- Must adhere to evidence-based treatments, behavioral interventions, nutrition, and pharmacotherapy for endocrine disorders and obesity.
- Must be open to a W-2 role of 32, 36, or 40 hours per week.
- Must be committed to delivering patient-centered, culturally competent care.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a telemedicine clinical setting, focusing on evidence-based obesity treatment and comprehensive diabetes management, including insulin titration and care for patients who may already use insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitors.
- Manage an individual patient panel or collaborate with advanced practice providers and Registered Dietitians specializing in diabetes treatment, primarily Type 2 Diabetes; the role may involve supervising advanced practice providers as needed.
- Review charts and conduct initial and return visits to ensure quality, continuity of care, and appropriate management of chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, and coronary artery or cardiovascular conditions.
- Provide advanced treatment planning and medical management support for complex endocrinology cases, escalated concerns, and patients requiring specialized management protocols.
- Prescribe non-controlled medications, including obesity and diabetes medications, for patients under direct care and in coordination with advanced practice providers.
- Ensure clinical documentation, protocols, and treatment pathways are followed consistently within the team, with a focus on guidelines for managing complex diabetic populations.
- Support colleagues’ clinical development by fostering growth, offering feedback, and supporting continuing education in endocrinology and obesity medicine.
- Participate in team-based care initiatives and contribute to a culture of collaboration and high-quality care.
- Attend relevant departmental meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts within the diabetes and obesity medicine program.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine is highly preferred.
- Experience providing synchronous patient care in a telehealth setting is preferred.
- Bilingual candidates with medical fluency in Spanish are desired, but not required.
