Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire; Basic Life Support through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures is required.
  • Ability to travel to various assigned locations is required.
  • The position requires the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds, frequent sitting and standing, and frequent keyboard use; patient-care providers may also need to kneel, bend, squat, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians as they assess, examine, and treat patients.
  • Manage patient flow and perform diagnostic procedures such as electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, injections, and vital-sign measurements.
  • Act as a liaison to physicians to help ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain and order supplies for the assigned area as needed.
  • Regularly work at three different locations within the assigned area as a Float resource.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure proper patient identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable in the use and documentation requirements of information technology systems within the established scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, and perform electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and injections in the office using appropriate skills to provide quality patient care.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth office operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
