Utilities Pipelayer

Description

  This employee is responsible for the assisting installation and maintenance of the City’s natural gas system.

• Assist in the installation and maintenance of all meter sets.

• First responder to emergency natural gas calls during regular working hours. 

• Performs on-call duties after hours as scheduled.

• Assist in the maintenance of building and grounds. 

• Assist in the installation on mains and services. 

• Assist in the installation and maintenance of AMR’s. 

• Assist in the maintenance of Natural Gas regulator stations.

· Assist in the maintenance of the CNG station.

· Makes meter exchanges/regulators and completes clerical work for same. 

· Completes natural gas trouble reports and Cityworks work orders.  

· Handles spotting Natural gas mains and service lines. 

· Makes minor repairs to natural gas mains and service (repair of broken lines, wrapping natural gas mains, etc.). 

· Assist in the repairs of natural gas meters and regulators. 

· Assist in preventing atmospheric corrosion with painting of meters and above ground piping. 

Requirements

Knowledge and Skills 

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Must have good written and oral communication skills

• Must be able to complete the operator qualifications that is mandated by the Georgia Public Service Commission

• Must have the basic knowledge of common hand tools and the use.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

The environmental working conditions of this position include constantly working in wet surrounds and high temperatures and very frequently working around loud noise, low temperatures and working outside. Also, frequently works around hazardous machinery, low noise, cluttered floor areas and poor ventilation. Occasionally works at night, inside and around dust or fumes.
