Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED equivalent and two years of experience performing building, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, alarm systems, and minor construction maintenance and repairs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must possess required licenses for the specialized field.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be able to perform light to medium work involving frequent walking or standing and regularly exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to work in a detention facility performing facility maintenance.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency and non-emergency service calls.
  • Must tolerate routine and frequent exposure to bright or dim light, dust and pollen, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise, animals or wildlife, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, and heights.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, assign, and review work; establish work schedules; maintain standards; monitor work in progress; inspect completed assignments; answer questions; and provide advice and direction as needed.
  • Perform complex maintenance and diagnostic services for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and similar systems maintenance, repair, or construction in county facilities or structures.
  • Estimate and procure compatible materials and tools required for maintenance, repair, and construction-related functions.
  • Install, maintain, and repair surveillance systems.
  • Maintain work records and documents, including work orders and formal and informal inspections.
  • Prepare and process daily work reports, inspection reports, work orders, requisitions, sketches, and related documentation.
  • Plan wiring layouts and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance and repair requirements and priorities.
  • Respond to 24-hour emergency and non-emergency service calls, diagnose problems, and make minor repairs.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Maintain adequate attendance.
