About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience directly leading a data engineering or data platform team in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with demonstrated ability to scale teams and systems through hiring, process, architecture, and delivery.
  • Experience working in SaaS companies.
  • Prior individual-contributor experience and hands-on data engineering expertise, including guiding technical design decisions, reviewing implementations, and unblocking complex engineering problems.
  • Experience defining long-term data platform and DataOps strategies, translating business and technical requirements into scalable architectures, and building modern data platforms using ELT, enriched modeling layers, and self-serve analytics for analytics, integrations, and advanced data products.
  • Deep understanding of data integration patterns with operational systems and third-party tools, APIs, event-driven architectures, and reverse ETL, with hands-on familiarity with BigQuery and dbt.
  • Understanding of data quality, reliability, and fault tolerance principles, including idempotency, error handling, and recovery strategies, and practical experience monitoring data platform pipeline health, freshness, data quality signals, and costs.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and privacy concepts, including access control, data classification, retention, and auditability.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and align Engineering, Product, Analytics, Commercial, and Finance stakeholders around shared ownership and priorities across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments and balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform evolution, including defining operating models, ownership boundaries, and on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Data Engineers as a hands-on player-coach, growing it into a fully-fledged data platform team with clear ownership and ways of working, and helping it balance strategic priorities with operational excellence.
  • Own the end-to-end data warehousing strategy, technology stack, architectural principles, and platform direction as the SaaS business scales; ensure schemas, storage patterns, and partitioning choices deliver performance and cost efficiency across varied workloads.
  • Set the strategy and architecture for connecting the data platform to operational systems and third-party tools, delivering high-quality systems with reliable, well-governed data flows.
  • Improve data ingestion and enrichment by defining reliability, data quality, and fault-tolerance standards across batch and near-real-time pipelines; design and evolve foundational data layers for integrations, operational reporting, and advanced analytics.
  • Own platform governance, including access control, data classification, retention, and auditability, aligned with security and privacy requirements.
  • Build observability into pipelines, datasets, and integrations, including freshness, volume anomalies, quality signals, and cost.
  • Partner cross-functionally, communicate tradeoffs, risks, and timelines to stakeholders, and influence the organization on data quality, trust, and accountability.

Desired Qualifications

  • Exposure to AI/ML or data science workflows; hands-on AI/ML experience is a plus.
  • Interest in fostering a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.
