Requirements
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Radiography Program with at least 6 months completed.
  • Must show documentation of passing basic competency check-off exams.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Must demonstrate human-relations skills for dealing with patients, physicians, and others in difficult or sensitive situations, including verbal and written communication, problem solving, and assertiveness.
  • Must have a customer-service orientation.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and organization skills, including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures.
  • Must be able to operate basic computer programs associated with departmental documentation and record keeping.
  • Must be able to stand or walk considerably, lift light-weight objects of 20 pounds or less, and assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients.
  • New graduates and ARRT-registered candidates cannot be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
  • Work on a rotational basis in several areas of the Radiology Department, performing routine radiology examinations and more advanced diagnostic procedures.
  • Receive or escort patients into the examination area, review pertinent patient information, and instruct patients concerning the examination.
  • Position patients to obtain the results specified for diagnoses; set up and adjust supportive and immobilization devices; and apply and adjust radiation-protective shielding.
  • Operate various diagnostic radiographic equipment to provide optimal Diagnostic Radiology examinations in accordance with physician orders.
  • Consult the Radiologist to clarify orders or discuss unusual situations.
  • Perform work in the Radiology Department or other areas as necessary to accommodate patient and physician needs.
  • Operate all equipment properly and with care, and immediately report malfunctions, necessary adjustments, or repairs.
  • Assist physicians in administering prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque media for examinations.
  • Perform first aid as required and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media or other emergencies.
  • Observe and practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Maintain cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient and file information.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels in assigned areas.
