Requirements
  • Prior experience building wire harnesses, including stripping, crimping, and bundling.
  • Prior soldering experience.
  • Ability to use basic electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and isolation testers, in a prototyping environment.
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to work around high voltage, electrical power systems, and chemical solvents.
  • Ability to make precise measurements using calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to lift at least twenty-five pounds and stand for periods of 30 minutes.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with basic machine shop tools, including band saws and drill presses.
  • Ability to work independently from a set of tasks.
  • Interest in process improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Create and test wire harnesses in accordance with drawings or detailed descriptions.
  • Assemble, rework, and test printed circuit boards from a schematic.
  • Wind and pot coils and other electromagnetic assemblies from drawings.
  • Refine existing processes for better throughput or superior performance.
  • Assemble electromechanical test fixtures and test articles.
  • Perform quality measurements on parts and systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience winding coils.
  • Experience with hot air tools.
  • Experience with 3D drafting tools such as Solidworks, Fusion, or NX.
  • Experience with electrical drafting tools such as OrCAD, Altium, VeSys, or Solidworks Electrical.
  • Prior high-voltage experience.
  • Experience with lathes or computer numerical control machining.
  • Experience with 3D printing.
  • A few years of hands-on experience in a related area such as aerospace, automotive, job shop, or a university lab.

MagLev Aero develops an electric propulsion platform for the advanced air mobility market, focusing on the MagLev HyperDrive™, a rim-driven, annular rotor propulsion system for eVTOL aircraft. The system uses a circular magnetic levitation mechanism and a passive magnetic bearing to suspend and drive many blades without a central shaft. This distributed propulsion design aims to reduce blade loading and noise while increasing safety, since propulsion is spread across multiple components and can continue operating if some units fail. The company sells its propulsion system to aircraft OEMs rather than building its own aircraft, targeting both unmanned cargo drones and passenger eVTOLs, and pursuing partnerships such as with XTI Aerospace and GE Additive. MagLev Aero plans a subscale technology demonstrator for 2025–2026 and aims to help make urban and regional air mobility quieter, more efficient, and easier to integrate from a system level.
