About the Job

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Have 12 or more years of relevant well engineering and/or operational experience.
  • Have experience in well construction or drilling, together with relevant exposure to one or more of plug and abandonment, completions, production engineering, or well intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Independently review the engineering basis and operational assumptions supporting authorizations for expenditure, tenders, and project budgets.
  • Assess well construction, drilling, plug and abandonment, completion, and intervention assumptions associated with proposed projects.
  • Review and challenge proposed well designs, operational sequences, equipment requirements, personnel assumptions, and service requirements.
  • Evaluate operational durations, rig and vessel requirements, logistics assumptions, productivity expectations, and non-productive time assumptions.
  • Validate operational time estimates and identify assumptions that may result in material cost overestimation or underestimation.
  • Compare proposed operational assumptions against historical project performance, offset wells, operational benchmarks, and actual field data.
  • Identify key technical uncertainties and assess their potential impact on schedule, resources, execution risk, and project cost.
  • Challenge unsupported productivity and efficiency assumptions to improve estimate realism and execution confidence.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency without compromising technical integrity, health, safety, and environmental performance, or execution reliability.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Costing specialists to ensure all material technical requirements are accurately reflected in project cost models.
  • Support the development and maintenance of technical benchmark databases, including activity durations, equipment utilization, non-productive time, and operational performance metrics.
  • Participate in independent peer reviews of critical, high-risk, and strategic opportunities.
  • Conduct planned-versus-actual reviews following project execution and identify the root causes of significant operational variances.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating methodologies, technical benchmarks, and operational assumptions.
  • Provide fact-based recommendations to the AFE Cell Leader regarding the technical robustness and operational feasibility of proposed estimates.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous relevant experience working in Integrated Services projects or for an operator is strongly preferred.

About the Company

Baker Hughes

Makes oilfield equipment and gas turbines

Baker Hughes makes equipment and runs field services for oil and gas producers, LNG plant operators, pipeline companies and industrial power users. Its products cover the whole gas chain, from drill bits and well completions to the compressors and turbines that chill natural gas into liquid for export. Its oilfield arm drills, completes and maintains wells, while its industrial arm designs, builds and services turbomachinery, valves and monitoring software. It earns money from equipment sales, project work and long-term service agreements that keep installed machines running. The current company formed in 2017 when Baker Hughes combined with GE's oil and gas business, and it is based in Houston.
