Hybrid

Hybrid: requires one or more days in office? Not clearly stated. Since there is explicit 'or remote' suggests both options; this is hybrid in practice but could be either remote or chicago-based. If a job has multiple locations including remote, treat as remote option also. Travel requirements: HYBRID or REMOTE? Instruction 11: remote jobs should be REMOTE. If there is remote and in-person location, mark IN_PERSON per rule 11: should be in-person? It says: if there is a remote location and in person location, it should be marked as in-person. That seems odd: for travel_requirements, IN_PERSON. But they want consistency: travel_requirements should be REMOTE if fully remote; HYBRID if mixture; IN_PERSON if not remote and mentions offices. Here there are both remote and Chicago. So HYBRID. We'll set travel_requirements HYBRID (2). Additional location info: none. remote field for Chicago should be false; remote for remote option true. So locations list contains two entries. One with city Chicago, IL, remote false. Another where remote true with all nulls. We'll proceed.

Apple May Raise Iphone Prices This September-December

👩‍🍳 How we use AI at Tech in Asia, thoughtfully and responsibly.🧔‍♂️ A friendly human may check it before it goes live. More news hereApple is reportedly planning to raise prices for its upcoming iPhone models, set to launch this fall, which typically spans from September to December. The information comes from anonymous supply chain sources, though the company has not confirmed if US-China trade tariffs are influencing the potential hikes. While the US and China have agreed to pause new tariffs for 90 days, a 20% tariff on Chinese goods remains. This could affect tech products like smartphones and laptops. To help offset these costs, Apple has reportedly moved some production out of China.Alongside the price increase, Apple is expected to unveil an ultra-thin iPhone later this year.🔗 Source: TechCrunch🧠 Food for thought1️⃣ Apple’s price increase follows historical premium pricing strategy that has proven successfulApple’s upward pricing trajectory isn’t new, as the company has consistently moved prices higher while maintaining strong sales. The iPhone XS Max reached €1,650 in 2018, triple the price of the cheapest available model that year1.This approach has succeeded because iPhone consumers have become demonstrably less price-sensitive over time. Analysis of historical sales data shows decreasing demand elasticity, indicating Apple can raise prices without significantly impacting sales volume2.Apple typically balances premium pricing with strategic affordability, such as introducing the iPhone 11 at Dh230 less than its predecessor in 2019 to demonstrate this flexibility3.The company has maintained this dual approach of high-end and mid-range products, positioning its premium devices as luxury items while offering more affordable alternatives to expand market reach4.2️⃣ Recent tariff exemptions provide critical context for Apple’s pricing strategyThe Trump administration’s April 2025 exemption of smartphones and computers from new reciprocal tariffs dramatically changed Apple’s operating environment5.Without this exemption, Apple potentially faced substantial cost increases, as tech industry analysis projected price hikes of 11% to 70% across various tech categories due to the initial tariff plan6.Apple’s reported shift of production to India and Vietnam represents a proactive strategy to reduce dependence on Chinese manufacturing and mitigate future tariff risks7.This manufacturing diversification parallels actions by other tech giants who are reshaping global supply chains in response to trade tensions, creating long-term changes to how tech products are produced and distributed worldwide7.3️⃣ Feature-based justification for price increases follows industry-wide patternApple’s reported approach of linking price increases to “new features and designs” rather than tariffs follows a tested industry strategy of associating higher prices with added value. The pattern of emphasizing technological improvements to justify higher prices helped Apple successfully introduce the iPhone X at $999 in 2017, which marked a significant price threshold at the time2.The consumer response to such premium pricing strategies demonstrates that perceived innovation and exclusivity can overcome price sensitivity, particularly when supported by Apple’s strong brand positioning in the luxury segment of the market4.Recent Apple developments

Incipient Ferroelectricity – What Is It, And How Could It Change Computing?

Low Energy TransistorsComputing is mostly performed by silicon transistors. They are the essential component in most of today's computers, but they also consume a lot of energy when operating.Another type of semiconductor component is FET: field-effect transistor. This type of transistor uses an electric field to control the current through a semiconductor and consumes a lot less power than a silicon transistor. Currently, the most widely used field-effect transistor is the MOSFET (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor).Scientists at Penn State University and the University of Minnesota are exploring a previously overlooked property of FETs: incipient ferroelectricity.Incipient ferroelectricity is the characteristic of temporary, scattered polarization, as if the material has the potential to become ferroelectricity, but it needs a little push. This could be very useful for neuromorphic computing, a technique that tries to replicate the way a brain works instead of using traditional binary computing methods. Such a method could store data with a lot less energy, as well as handle harsh conditions like outer space. The researchers published their results in Nature Communication, titled “ Multifunctional 2D FETs exploiting incipient ferroelectricity in freestanding SrTiO3 nanomembranes at sub-ambient temperatures ”1.What is Incipient Ferroelectricity?Ferroelectricity is the characteristic of certain materials that have a spontaneous electric polarization that can be reversed by the application of an external electric field. This is commonly used for building ferroelectric capacitors smaller in physical size compared to dielectric capacitors. It is a physical characteristic also used for building ferroelectric RAM memory for computers and RFID cards.Incipient ferroelectricity is when the ferroelectric characteristic only occurs in specific conditions: it can hold an electrical charge but needs certain conditions to achieve an electrical charge.“Incipient ferroelectricity means there’s no stable ferroelectric order at room temperature
