About the job

Requirements

  • A track record of taking an organization through a step-change in pace and performance or a major transformation and delivering the result.
  • Experience operating as an executive who helps shape company strategy and sets technical direction.
  • Experience operating with boards and investors in a growth or investor-backed business and serving as the technology voice in that setting.
  • Experience across customer-facing ecommerce or consumer web and the operational, back-office, or supply-chain systems behind it.
  • Experience modernizing a significant platform, ideally moving from a monolith toward a modern, service-based, or headless architecture without stalling delivery.
  • A demonstrated ability to build and retain high-performing teams with a high hiring bar and sustained investment in employee development.
  • Hands-on fluency with artificial intelligence-assisted development and modern software development lifecycle practices, together with a clear approach to adopting them responsibly and effectively.
  • Commercial judgment connecting engineering decisions to revenue, cost, and customer outcomes, with the ability to work effectively with commercial and finance leaders.
  • Clear, credible communication with engineers and executives and the judgment to adapt communication to the audience.
Responsibilities
  • Own the technology strategy, budget, and narrative, and represent technology to the executive team and board.
  • Lead functional leadership across ecommerce, post-purchase and fulfillment, manufacturing operations, platform, and information technology functions.
  • Set technical standards, technical direction, and operating practices across the technology organization.
  • Hold the organization accountable for outcomes through its leaders and support engineering leaders in delivering at pace.
  • Hire, develop, and retain leaders and engineers; own engineering culture, performance standards, and organizational structure.
  • Partner with Product, Commercial, and Operations leadership to turn strategy into a sequenced delivery plan and make investment trade-offs visible.
  • Steer modernization of the ecommerce platform and its connections to post-purchase, fulfillment, and manufacturing systems.
  • Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions and sequence platform work so the business realizes value quickly.
  • Own quality, reliability, delivery performance, throughput, stability, and developer experience across the organization.
  • Lead responsible adoption of artificial intelligence tooling and modern software development practices, including setting guardrails and measuring value.
  • In the first year, establish a healthy and well-structured organization that delivers predictably and retains high-performing employees.
  • Advance platform modernization against a plan understood and supported by the business.
  • Maintain a technology cost line that the chief financial officer understands and trusts, with a clear connection between investment and business outcomes.
  • Drive deliberate and measurable adoption of artificial intelligence-assisted ways of working.
  • Build trust with Product, Commercial, and Operations partners and clarify roadmap trade-offs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to manufacturing, logistics, or physical-product operations is a strong plus.
