Requirements
  • High school education or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience providing comparable knowledge and skills.
  • Must have or be working toward Serve-Safe certification and follow HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Must have a valid Nassau County Health Department certificate.
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have computer skills, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and set up breakfast items, including pastries, cut fruit, oatmeal, and hot food buffet items, for service.
  • Prepare and set up dinner items, including salad bar, pizza, desserts, and hot food buffet items, for service.
  • Work between all campus cafés as needed and work special campus events as required.
  • Greet customers upon entrance and thank them upon exit.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service.
  • Respond to customer comments and report applicable comments to management.
  • Replenish and clean the service area during less busy periods and as needed.
  • Set up buffet and salad bar components, ensuring fruits, vegetables, and other components are stocked and ready for service.
  • Ensure machines are operating properly and promptly communicate equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Understand all ingredients and how to produce all items at the assigned station.
  • Keep the station and machinery clean and sanitized, and follow proper storage, sanitation, and closing procedures.
  • Use the ordering sheet with the shift lead to document low inventories of attendant supplies and products.
  • Serve as backup to cooks by setting up, stocking, and serving food to students.
  • Assist with daily cleaning of the dining location and seating areas.
  • Clean equipment and work areas, operate the dishwasher or scrub pots and pans, clean meal lines, dispose of or store leftovers, and clear debris from tables.
  • Comply with Nassau County sanitation guideline requirements and HACCP policies while handling food, drinks, utensils, and equipment.
  • Complete timesheets on the last day worked and submit them.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation checklists.
  • Work in other campus areas, including DeSeversky Mansion, cafés, kiosks, food trucks, and special events on or off campus, as needed.
  • Work in other positions, such as utility, prep cook, and server, when coverage is needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
