Milbank secures White & Case practice co-head for Chicago debut.

Milbank secures White & Case practice co-head for Chicago debut. Nadav Klugman, co-chair of White & Case's global project development and finance practice, joins to help launch Milbank's 12th global office 24 August 2026 Milbank is set to launch in Chicago and has brought on a White & Case practice co-head as its first partner in the city. Nadav Klugman has joined Milbank having co-led White & Case's global project development and finance practice to help open the new office - the firm's 12th globally. "We believe that Chicago can be an important new market for the firm to attract first-level talent that will allow us to better serve our clients," Milbank chairman, Scott Edelman, said in a statement. Advertisement Edelman added Klugman was "recognised as a star" in the energy transition sector, which he pointed to as a growing area for the firm. Chicago will mark Milbank's first new location since 2015, when it launched its foreign legal consultant office in Seoul, South Korea. Klugman, who has advised clients including BlackRock, Bank of America, KKR and Nomura, will be expected to help lead the new office. He was a partner at Mayer Brown before joining White & Case in 2024 and focuses his practice on energy transition and structured corporate solutions, particularly advising financial institutions and sponsors on project financings, private acquisitions and divestitures of renewable energy investments, and tax equity investments. "Financings for renewable energy assets have increased at an unprecedented rate as the demand for energy continues to accelerate," Milbank global project, energy and infrastructure finance partner, Mike Duff, said. "Nadav's experience will meaningfully strengthen our ability to deliver the financing structures that our clients require and cement our position as the market's leading renewables platform." Last November Milbank also boosted its energy and infrastructure financing bench in its New York headquarters with partner Thomas Sines from Paul Hastings. His work spans project finance, debt capital markets, bank financings and corporate transactions across traditional and renewable energy, as well as digital infrastructure and data centre financings. The firm's Chicago move comes just a few weeks after Simpson Thacher & Bartlett opened an office in the city with a team of five private investment and family office partners hired from Kirkland & Ellis. Another recent entrant to the Chicago market is Akin Gump, which launched there last autumn with a four-partner real estate funds and infrastructure M&A team it hired earlier in 2025 from Mayer Brown.

Jones Day adds Milbank's APAC restructuring head in Sydney.

Jones Day adds Milbank's APAC restructuring head in Sydney. Nicholas Dunstone marks Jones Day's fifth lateral partner hire in Australia this year 28 July 2026 Credit: Jones Day Jones Day has hired the head of Milbank's APAC restructuring practice in Sydney. Nicholas Dunstone has joined the firm's business restructuring and reorganisation practice as a partner, bringing more than 25 years' experience advising on complex cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters across the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Heather Lennox, who leads Jones Day's 100-lawyer business restructuring and reorganisation practice, said Dunstone's track record of representing creditors, distressed investors and debtors across multiple jurisdictions "gives him the ability to see restructurings from every angle". Advertisement Dunstone spent just over three years at Milbank as a partner working across Singapore and London. Before that, he spent 11 years as head of restructuring at hedge fund manager Asia Research & Capital Management in Hong Kong, and earlier practised at firms including Clifford Chance and legacy Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft. He is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia and NSW. Jones Day says it has recruited five partners since the start of 2026 and 13 since mid-2024, when it kicked off a growth strategy across areas including M&A, private equity, finance and disputes, as well as restructuring. Chris Lovrien, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Australia region, said one focus of that growth push had been "to build a world-class practice representing financial institutions, investors and corporates in cross-border finance, private credit, distressed finance and work outs", adding that Dunstone's hire would support that aim. LAW OVER BORDERS COMPARATIVE GUIDES Enforcement of Judgments Law Guide This comparative guide offers a practical overview of the enforcement of judgments and arbitration awards across multiple jurisdictions... | 2mos. "Nick built one of the leading restructuring practices in Australia early in his career and went on to develop an extensive network across Asia-Pacific and global financial centres, which makes him a tremendous asset to our clients," said John Cooper, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Sydney office. "His arrival will strengthen our ability to serve clients on complex cross-border restructuring matters that connect Sydney to Singapore, Hong Kong, London and beyond." Prominent recruits include a three-partner Melbourne litigation team which joined from Corrs Chambers Westgarth in March - Matthew Critchley, Alicia Salvo and Brendon Clarke - while class action defence specialist Christine Tran joined from HSF Kramer in October last year. However, the firm has also seen some departures from its disputes practice. Daniel Moloney joined Gilbert + Tobin in September 2025 in Melbourne; Sydney partner Holly Sara followed in his footsteps in December, while veteran litigator John Emmerig moved to Thomson Geer in January 2026. Milbank, meanwhile, has seen a number of senior exits across Asia this year, including the managing partner of its Seoul office, David Cho, who left for Dechert in Singapore in May. In February, partner Andrew Pendleton also joined Mayer Brown in Tokyo as head of project finance for EMEA and Asia, with a counsel and special counsel making the move with him.
