Salary Range: 70000 to 80000 (Currency: USD) (Pay period: per-year-salary)
The Metropolitan Opera is an award-winning cultural leader in bringing the live opera performances to a worldwide audience, producing approximately 80 radio broadcasts per season, heard on its historic Saturday Matinee radio broadcasts and 24/7 SiriusXM channel. The Show Producer, working under the supervision of the Senior Radio Producer/Editor, is responsible for the production and execution of live and pre-recorded radio broadcasts, and for managing the network of radio station partners who distribute the broadcasts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Live Show Producing
- Direct/cue all live broadcast segments, working with host, commentator, program guests, and producing team and engineers, with attention to flow of content, time/format, and adjusting to last-minute changes
- Lead coordination and communication between the radio broadcast and stage performance teams on performance information and timings
- Make on-the-spot content decisions as needed during broadcasts
- Planning and preparation of content for radio broadcasts
- Manage schedule and production workflow to deliver all materials for multiple weekly broadcasts – a season total of approximately 80 live and pre-recorded broadcasts – in accordance with firm regular deadlines
- Oversee script elements and rundowns for all broadcasts
- Oversee script read-throughs and recordings for all broadcasts
- Write/edit/produce elements such as promos, interviews, and features
- Coordinate with other departments on Met activities and priorities for on-air promotion
- Devise contingency plans and materials for unforeseen changes that may affect broadcasts
- Network relations
- Manage relationships with Saturday matinee radio broadcast network partners, domestic and international – including execution of contracts and distribution of weekly broadcast information and content, as well as providing regular updates and fielding questions and concerns
- Produce and distribute broadcast promos and promotional materials for multiple platforms/outlets
- Serve as primary point of contact with SiriusXM on the live broadcasts and related content
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years experience producing live radio broadcasts or other live events
- Knowledgeability of opera and classical music
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- BA degree or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database systems, and aptitude for learning new software as required
Physical Demands
- Flexible schedule – must work evenings and Saturdays during the broadcast season
- Ability to function well and lead a team in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations
- Ability to handle multiple projects under strict deadlines in a detail-oriented yet flexible and creative manner
