Tesla designs and sells electric vehicles and renewable energy products. Its cars (Model S, 3, X, Y, and Roadster) run on battery power, with a semi-autonomous Autopilot driving system and a global network of fast-charging stations called Superchargers. The company also provides solar panels, Solar Roof, and energy storage products (Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack) to generate and store clean energy for homes and businesses. Tesla operates with a vertically integrated model, manufacturing key components (batteries, drivetrains) and selling directly to customers via its website and stores, while earning revenue from vehicle and energy product sales and regulatory credits. Its goal is to speed up the world’s transition to sustainable energy by combining mobility and energy solutions in one ecosystem.

  • Nevada approved up to 5,000 robotaxis on August 20, 2026 after initial restrictions.
  • Tesla will reveal the Semi in Europe at IAA Transportation, expanding freight optionality.

What critics are saying

  • China recalled 2.98 million Teslas on August 21, 2026 over emergency door-release failures.
  • Nevada capped Tesla’s Las Vegas robotaxi launch at 10 vehicles, crippling near-term scaling.
  • Tesla’s unsupervised-driving promises keep slipping; HW3 owners still await the real payoff.

What makes Tesla unique

  • Tesla controls EVs, charging, software, and manufacturing end-to-end, unlike legacy automakers.

Tesla's Optimus targets $300B in wages at $5/hour as tech cuts 140,000 jobs

Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot operates at roughly $5 per hour versus $35 for human workers, targeting $300 billion in near-term serviceable wages across factories, warehouses, and food service. US tech companies cut nearly 140,000 jobs in 2026, with Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle driving roughly 50,000 of those layoffs citing AI. The shift affects white-collar workers particularly, as AI compresses work that previously required entire teams. Monday.com announced plans in July to eliminate about 20% of its workforce, approximately 630 positions, whilst redirecting resources toward its AI platform. The changes create a paradox for investors: productivity gains from automation could erode the consumer purchasing power that companies depend on for revenue growth.

Tesla stock could still run to 2027 despite Q2 revenue of $27B and compressed 1% operating margin

Tesla's second-quarter results showed $27 billion in revenue with automotive sales up 23% year over year, though operating margin compressed to near 1% after price cuts and heavy spending. Free cash flow turned negative as capital expenditures more than doubled sequentially, with guidance calling for over $25 billion of capex for the year. Vehicle production reached 408,000 units in the first quarter, with 358,000 delivered. Energy storage deployments hit 8.8 gigawatt-hours. Full self-driving subscriptions amongst current owners reached approximately 1.28 million active users in the first quarter, up roughly 51% from the prior quarter. Tesla disclosed hundreds of millions of dollars in annual recurring revenue from FSD alone, generating high-margin income from cars already sold.

Tesla recalls 2.98M EVs in China over door releases that could trap occupants in crashes

Tesla is recalling 2.98 million vehicles in China over door releases that may trap passengers when power fails after crashes. The recall, Tesla's largest in China, covers Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles built between 2018 and 2026. Tesla doors normally open with electric buttons that can fail when collisions disable the low-voltage system. Passengers must then find mechanical releases that regulators say blend into interiors. Bloomberg identified at least 15 deaths across 12 crashes involving occupants unable to exit burning Teslas. The fix includes warning labels and a software update to lower windows automatically after collisions. Tesla is not replacing door hardware. Design chief Franz von Holzhausen said the company is working to combine electronic and mechanical releases into one control. China generated $20.96 billion for Tesla last year, roughly 22 per cent of total revenue.

Tesla approved to operate 5,000 paid robotaxis in Nevada as Musk predicts 'crazy' growth

Tesla has received approval from Nevada's Transportation Authority to operate up to 5,000 paid robotaxis in Clark County, replacing its previous 10-vehicle limit. The company must complete inspections, insurance filings, and fare disclosures before launching, potentially within 30 days. Tesla described 5,000 as a "ceiling" and indicated reaching around 2,500 robotaxis within a year would be a strong result. The company is prioritising its two-seat Cybercab, which entered production at Gigafactory Texas in February, over adding Model Y vehicles to its fleet. Meanwhile, CEO Elon Musk predicted on X that Tesla would exceed Wall Street's forecast of 119% revenue growth over the next five years, calling the prediction "crazy right now.

Tesla Malaysia opens 21st supercharging station at Aeon Mall Kinta City.

Tesla Malaysia opens 21st supercharging station at Aeon Mall Kinta City. By CARSIFU | 21 August 2026 IPOH: Tesla's 21st supercharging station in Malaysia is now up and running. Located at Aeon Mall Kinta City in Ipoh, Perak, it is the first supercharging station with connectivity powered by Starlink. The new station is also said to be the last connecting piece in Tesla's regional Supercharger network - enabling seamless cross-country travel from Singapore through Malaysia to Thailand, and vice versa. To celebrate this milestone, Tesla is offering complimentary supercharging at the mall on Aug 21-23. Additionally, Tesla announced that the Model Y is now officially included in the Tesla Refer and Earn programme, where Tesla owners can share their personal referral link with friends and family and earn exclusive awards when those referrals complete a qualifying purchase. Awards may be redeemed for supercharging credits, software upgrades, and more. To add, the first 10 people referred who order a new Tesla using a referral link will receive RM 1,000 off their new Model 3 or Model Y. The Model 3's price starts at RM 149,000 while the Model Y from RM 198,000. Model Y customers can also enjoy an additional incentive of a RM 13,000 trade-in rebate or a Low Interest Program (fixed rate) from 0.88% (offers not combinable; both incentives applicable only to Model Y Premium RWD). Tesla Malaysia is currently offering a limited-time special for both models where customers can enjoy 3,000 km of supercharging credits. Tesla owners earn RM 500 in Tesla credits for each successful referral. As of today, Tesla operates 21 supercharging stations (92 Superchargers) and 18 destination charging locations (78 chargers) across Malaysia. Autos Tesla
